Best bikes under 6500$

Postby ConfusedCyclist » Wed Aug 22, 2018 5:46 am

With the weather bound to suite a fair weather cyclist like me, who’s also looking for an upgrade this season, what are the best bikes out there under $6,500?

Sorry. Road riding, some climbing Kinglake (Victoria) and a fair bit of Beach Road rides.

For that riding buy a nice alu framed 105 equipped rim brake bike for about $1500, and save yourself $5000 and take a 7-10 day trip to Europe to ride the Dolomites, Alps or Pyrenees.

If you want a more meaningful answer then describing current bike and why you are wanting to upgrade might help. For many $6500 is a huge price to pay a bike and unjustifiable unless you are doing something competitive or serious with it. Though maybe you are financial situations where you just want to treat yourself with some bling because you can afford it.

Your reasons are your own, but giving more background might help.

For $6500 you could buy pretty much anything. You could spend a quarter of that and still get a quality bike. Why do you want to spend so much?

Some people want to buy a ferrari, when a (insert budget sports car) is just as much fun to drive

Mate i would decide on what shifting action you like first ie sram, campag etc as this will narrow down the huge selection. Disc or no disc ? I think disc is the way to go these days. Wheels are going to be the next biggest difference in the price range. Check out online reviews for wheels that suit your weight and rides. Then start combining together a list that matches wants and test ride each one.
If your not racing then your don't have to be to picky on geometry that suits crits or road etc its just what puts a smile on your face and looks good to you that really matters.
For 6k i would not be buying anything second hand or low ks unless your going racing.

Cut the budget in half and buy the bike secondhand is my advice.

Gee people,

let the bloke spend his money. It's good for the economy.

Someone might be looking to buy a second hand bike in a few years.

Cheers,

Okay this may be more targeted. They may be very different, but this is where I am torn.

Giant of those 2. But in that price range the cannonade caad12/dura ace is a very nice bike.

+99. With your left over cash from $6500 you can upgrade to your hearts content.

I almost pulled the trigger on a $3,500 bike a week or so ago. I checked the wheels that come with that bike. They are $200 a set on Wiggle.
That bike at $3,500 had a substantial discount, the original price was much more.

Neither of these two.

Would only touch the Slr01 in a BMC ( and not even a slr02 or any of the rm or tm models).

Also I rather the TCR over the Propel (especially if doing Kinglake for example) and if you are paying over $5k and not going the SL model on either of these I think you will always wonder what the top SL model was like.

I'd also look at a Spesh Sworks Tarmac.

Buy the bike you like the look of the most (assuming it fits you well)...the one that makes you want to ride it. Doesn't matter about the price, it could be a $1500 or $6500...just get the one you desire.
I overtook some people going uphill once.
