Generally when it's suicide there are links to Beyond Blue etc.march83 wrote:Quite often when no cause is given it's suicide.

I just did a quick Google and the cause appears to be genuinely unknown at the moment.

But beside the point anyway, I'll sorely miss his voice on SBS...

His knowledge and commentary throughout the years on the TDF coverage was sadly missed by myself in recent years and now I hear this.

If you need a bit of a distraction try this...
while it has very little commentary, my guess is that in his day, Paul would have loved to have raced this bit go at it hard as you can type ride.

A colleague at work mentioned something about this, but I had been in meetings all day and in a news vacuum. I'm shocked.
RIP Paul Sherwen - 62 is too young.

What is it with cyclists and dodgy tickers? It certainly no like Sherwen let himself go after retirement.

This maybe a little harsh but after having lived in similar environments.singlespeedscott wrote:I have just read his death has been attributed to heart failure

Unfortunately he lived in a third world country where ambulance drivers are not paramedics - they are drivers to get you to the hospital - after you have negotiated the cost of transport.

While being fit helps, unfortunatly heart issues hit us all. Spent a few days in ICU cardic ward with pericarditus a few years ago and the demographic was anyone and everyone.singlespeedscott wrote:From what I’ve read he died in his sleep. Nothing a paramedic could of done for that. Regardless a fit guy in his 60’s really should be at the low end of heart related issues.

Heart Failure is an odd descriptor for cause of death.
It's usually used for chronic compromised heart pump capacity, not acute fatal heart events.
If he had a chronic condition, then it would be more likely to have been managed well by his doctors.
As for cyclists and their hearts, sports science in Sherwin's time wasn't as insightful, so heart damage was more likely.
And it was a time when many were on heart damaging PEDs, though Sherwin has always denied anything to do with them.
