Regarding preliminary studies for the M12, path users need to impress on the M7 staff how vital it is that the path stays open during the construction phase as there is no alternate route, the M7 staff then needs to go to bat for its user base in the preliminary discussions so none are inconvenienced during construction.

The M12 operators, in my opinion, aren't going to give much of a thought for some commuting and recreational cyclists or people walking their dog. The current M4 roadworks come to mind.

But to my untrained eye, the proposed M12 interchange is to the west of the M7 and the path in that location is to the east so I'm not ready to proclaim the sky is falling yet. Scratch that.

I just read the part "Connecting pedestrian and cycleway bridge from Cecil Hills to Western Sydney Parklands to be modified"

That's the bridge over Elizabeth Dr, I have no idea what is meant by 'modified' or why they'd even need to :?

I assume it means "gone".
A big section of that already cut hill is going to have to be shaved back a lot further for M7 north to M12 ramp probably.

Remember it needs to interconnect with M7 southbound lane, so that's flyovers/tunnels to the eastern side.
I'm sure they will want it to be high speed interchange and truck friendly, so looking at big gentle bends, check down at Prestons M7hume/M5/CVW that's basically the same thing of two motorways and a large free road junction. Epic construction stuff.

The Hulk bent back the maximum security mesh, when they reopened the gate they couldn't open it fully due to it poking out.

Can't blame a roadie for it, they don't have that sort of upper body strength. Perhaps a triathlete named Chad with 10 Livestrong bands on each arm.

Hi all

Drainage improvement works, M7 Shared Path, Prestons

Westlink M7 will be carrying out drainage improvement works on the M7 shared path between Jedda Rd and Ash Rd, Prestons from Monday 20 August to Wednesday 22 August 2018 (weather permitting). Work hours are between 7am and 5pm.

We recommend planning ahead, as this section of shared path will be closed while this work is carried out. There will be a pedestrian and cyclist detour in place via Jedda Rd, and an alt. route for cyclists via Bernera Rd. Intermittent stoppages will be also be required at the Jedda Rd shared path entry point to allow plant and equipment to be moved to and from the work area. Traffic controllers will be on site and can help with information on detour routes.

Signage and an email alert is being issued today. Hopefully you all receive the notification.

This work aims to temporarily improve the time it takes for water to drain off the path, following a rain event. Noting, works will not prevent the water from entering the M7 shared path from neighbouring land.

We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience while this work is carried out.

Please call 02 9834 9200 or info@westlinkm7.com.au with any questions about this work.

thanks
Tracey, WestlinkM7

I recommend some council barriers at the turnoff points before the gates with a sign saying "closed for excavation".
Otherwise people will still be coming through and encountering the workers.

Fingers crossed it gets good water flow.

thanks Jmuzz, I'll pass on your feedback. We understand there will be people who may not know about the works, when travelling in the area on the day. Our traffic controllers can help with alt. routes. There will also be traffic controls in place and signs etc installed to RTA and AS standards with advance warning of the work zone ahead.

kind regards

They have the closure at the wrong place actually telling cyclists to use Ash Road, which is dangerous and destroys tyres (it is an illegal garbage dump and has a big mud puddle and gravel marbles).
There is no sign before being told to use Ash Rd.

Closure signs should be down past the South gate at Kurrajong Rd gate.

Exactly - @Westlink M7 - please note the above. We know that other big government backed or organised motorway projects do nothing for cycling infrastructure at all, so hopefully we won't see the one good non-stop cycleway taken out of action. It needs to stay open. A closure for a year or more is going to inconvenience a heap of people.

Bicycle NSW have said they are adding the accessibility and alternate routes during construction phase to their agenda.

Everyone only just realising that the construction is going to be a major disruption for a long period.

thanks g-boaf, Westlink M7 understands your concerns and your feedback has been passed on to the team to raise with M12. I understand early discussions have been held (and will continue) regarding the M7/M12 interface, but as it's early stages and in concept phase, a proposed construction methodology would be some time away.

Cabling work on M7 shared path, Eastern Creek to Kings Langley
late August to late September 2018

Hi everyone

Over the next month (till end of September) crews from the Lendlease Bouygues Joint Venture will be progressively hauling communications cables through existing pits along the M7 shared path, between Old Wallgrove Road, Eastern Creek, and Old Windsor Road, Kings Langley. This work is being carried out for the NorthConnex Project.

The M7 shared path will remain open, however reduced to half-width around work zone areas. Signage and traffic controllers will be on site.

Please take extra care and use caution when passing the work areas. Possible short delays are anticipated.

Work hours are 7am -5pm Monday to Friday, weather permitting.

An email alert has been issued for this work.

We apologise for any inconvenience while this work is carried out. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or feedback.

thanks

Kangaroos on M7 Shared Path, Eastern Creek

Please take extra care when travelling on the M7 shared path, as a mob of Kangaroos have been sighted on the hop between Eastern Creek and Dean Park, this morning.

Westlink M7 maintenance crews are monitoring their movement.

Please contact Westlink M7 on 02 9834 9200 with any questions.

I don't believe it was ever aimed at preventing flooding since the water comes from Liverpool Council owned land. Instead, the drain is designed to reduce the time that the path remains flooded. So we will now see how quickly the path re-opens.

It might not even be flooded.
The old practice seemed to be that it would be closed a day after any rain and usually be left alone for weekends.

So it may just be an automatic reaction to the rain on Friday and forecast wet week using the same criteria as pre drain.

Hi all,

We received advice from members of the community this morning that the path was flooded from last Fridays rain. This triggered the email alert that you might have received today. The shared path at Prestons was open over the weekend, though there was a lot of water on the path. Our crews were there this morning to pump the water away. The good news is that the new pump system worked really well, and our crews were able to remove all of the water in less than an hour. However due to the forecast rain today, a decision was made to keep the gates closed. We will be continuing to monitor this week.

The drainage improvement works aims to reduce the time it takes for the water to subside by enabling our crews to be able to pump the water off the path and reopen the gates sooner, following a closure from a rain event. Unfortunately our works won't be able to prevent water from coming on to the M7 shared path from neighbouring land (that is very wet and boggy).

Hope this clarifies. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

thanks

I only use it a few times a month now but from the M7 emails I note that the path has been closed due to flooding from 04 to 09 Oct and again 10 to 22 Oct, a total of 19 days this month and we are only up to the 23rd. Lucky we got those remediation works a couple of months ago otherwise it might have been closed till Christmas. Bit of a joke really ?

The drain does help it clear the day after rain which is better than the week long closures, but the swamp still floods over the path during rain.

Probably nothing but raising the path a foot will help.
Some engineer or surveyor screwed up the design.
