NSW struggles to get into gear as bicycle usage lags behindThat's what a fool does. I'm invincible, I'm paying money ... uh ... The girl's happy, she's got no money, I got my rocks off. How good is this?
Re: NSW struggles to get into gear as bicycle usage lags behI wonder how those rates compare to whether an adult is allowed to ride on the foot path and how helmet laws are structured. it says NT leads he way in usage. if I undestand some recent posts NT riders can ride on the foot path and if so do not require to wear helmets.
this is not meant to be a helmet discussion, merely a correlation observation please. if I am wrong about the NT laws then ignore my observation. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

Re: NSW struggles to get into gear as bicycle usage lags behI'm guessing life is different in the Territory. Sydney has bike hostile traffic. Maybe for kids to get around, bikes are the best option i.e. no public transport, long distances, no pedophiles.
Just speculating. That's what a fool does. I'm invincible, I'm paying money ... uh ... The girl's happy, she's got no money, I got my rocks off. How good is this?
Re: NSW struggles to get into gear as bicycle usage lags behHelmets are just as mandatory according to this:

Re: NSW struggles to get into gear as bicycle usage lags behthanks for the link. the way I read page two top left corner is that helmets for adults are only required when riding on the road or bicycle lane part of a road, so not required when riding on a foot path. maybe this is a partial explanation for higher participation rates? Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

Re: NSW struggles to get into gear as bicycle usage lags beh
There could also be a small difference between 'it's the rules' and 'it's tolerated' I'm guessing the latter.. Also, after looking some statistics on this site ; http://www.roadsafety.nt.gov.au/transpo ... ndex.shtml You wil see that so far this year, there has been no bicycle fatality at al, none. And last year, also none, from the 50 people that have died not one of them was a cyclist. That might also help to contribute to the people willing to ride a bike... ... The dutch have one word to describe the aussie MHL, this word is ;
SCHIJNVEILIGHEID !!
Re: NSW struggles to get into gear as bicycle usage lags behparticipation rate might be skewed by the population size <240,000 for the whole territory. That's less than some of our individual local council areas in Sydney, Blacktown 299,000 in 2009.
