Hey guys, with the smell of freshly mown grass showing Summer is finally here to stay (optimism!!), I thought it'd be good to do some country kms.
Does anybody have any nominations for the best rides within say 200 -300km of Sydney eg drive to the start and do a loop or else get a train back to the start.
1 day riding or two or three days with suitable pub overnighters.
Any suggestions/ideas?
cheers

I did a good loop in the Hunter Valley http://connect.garmin.com/activity/106311699The section from Cessnock through Wollombi to Broke was great riding and very picturesque. The main road through Pokolbin is the worst piece of road I've ever ridden. Cheers, Peter

That's some nice riding country thereabouts. If you wanted to multiday it, its a nice ride up the old Pacific Hwy from Hornsby, then down through Kulnurra and Bucketty to Wollombi. There's lots of good riding in the Southern Highlands as well, particularly if you keep off the busier roads. cheers grant

Thanks for the suggestions....Hunter sunds good.
I've been toying with goulburn to lithgow, there's train access to both, back roads that go through or past lots of national parks, oberon sits roughly between the two towns...anyone ridden that area?

I rode Manly to Lithgow on the 1st of Jan Was a great ride, I think it was around 190km. I just got the Train back to Central and rode home from there. But there are road works going on near Blue Mts so you take back road detours. All in all a great ride. If you ride it on a weekend, let me know, i'll tag a long
If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough.

Berry area - fabulous climbs over into Kangaroo Valley, rural scenery, lovely town. Go up to the highlands and back down either Jamberoo or Macquarie Pass if you want to make more out of it, or alternatively up to Bowral and link into the near Southern Highlands. You could catch a train to Berry, ride to Bowral, and then keep riding to Sydney or any of the numerous train stops on the way.
Speaking of the near Southern Highlands, from Mittagong all the way to Penrith has lots of medium and smaller climbs, quiet roads, rural scenes. Avoid the freeways and Camden Valley Way. Most other roads are quiet and very attractive
Pacific Highway Hornsby to Gosford - great surface, quiet roads, water views.
If you like climbing, then I'd pick Berry out of that lot. They're all great areas.

All good suggestions, thanks. Kanga Valley might require a different rear cluster! Has anybody ridden any of this:

I've driven that road but not risen it. It's beautiful country and would make a nice tour.

Mostly ruling hills but there is a good climb out from the Abercrombie River. Load the route into this and you can see the profile. http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx
