Uni's tree house had to add bike racks

A $125 million University of Technology Sydney campus, designed by award-winning architect Frank Gehry, was given the green light after it cut carparks to make way for 100 more bike bays.

NSW Planning gave the tick to what Mr Gehry described as a "wrinkled" design inspired by a tree house, calling it "a new educational facility of the highest design standards".

It will have 177 bike spaces for up to 1256 students and 326 academic staff after Sydney City Council complained 77 bike racks were not enough.

I studied just next door, at the DAB Faculty. UTS parking is abysmal, so public transport usually won the day. The intended use of the treehouse (UTS business schools) may mean more bike racks is probably overkill for that building alone, but its proximity to the main UTS tower and DAB will mean it should get fairly well populated.
