I don't want a free ticket even though I'd love to go but I just got back from Europe yesterday and I plan to spend the weekend sleeping. On any other weekend.........

But I do get annoyed that a lot of bike and equipment importers and distributors seem to make a point of avoiding these shows.

Someone mentioned car shows. A few years back a couple of car companies were told there was no room for them at the Sydney show and they screamed blue murder and more recently a few car makers caught no end of flack from potential customers when they chose to stay away from the Melbourne and Sydney shows.

Yet the bike guys think we'll be happy to go into the LBS.

Come on guys, get with the program!

Just back from the bike show - I have a series of photos on the BNA facebook page.

It is double as big this year, there is more going one and the vibe is also nice.
On the Friday, visitor numbers weren't massive which I found refreshing as I could chat with people at the stands more easily, usually without waiting too long.
I except larger crowds on the Saturday and Sunday.

The indoor MTB is nice, it is small but you can still ride a Giant MTB.
Brad McGee and Patrick Jonker were on a Panel on the evening, mostly talking about the Tour de France and previous stage.

You get more for your buck and while I still think the cover charge is high, for me personally I took time to speak with people (rather than just browse) and feel that this is a big step forward over last year and hopefully sets the trend for a bigger show next year... which also means more support from importers.

Try #2 (previous draft seems to have gone to la-la land)

Thanks for the free ticket.

Mr ILoveMyBike and I rode to Moore Park today (what a glorious day!) and spent a very happy 2 hours wandering around. (My bike also received 2 unsolicited compliments which raised a little personal frisson!)

While the show is dominated by road-bikes and their paraphenalia (sp?), we still found enough around safety/commuting/dutchy style bikes to keep us happy.

And yes, for what it currently is, I think the cover price is over-priced. Hopefully the expo will continue to grow, and become a solid regular event.

Thanks again for my ticket Chris.
The whole family visited this afternoon and spent some time ogling the bikes and bits with Mrs 'Nijs' even picking up a bargain buy!

Echoing ILoveMyBike's comments about the cover charge; had we not had a free ticket, reduced price CA ticket and both kids being free we may have felt a little hard done by on the value for money front.

Having said that, some of the smaller exhibitors are probably saying the same thing....
It's a bit warmer here than Scotland isn't it!

Went on Saturday with my dad, it was ok but to echo the sentiments of the others without the free ticket probably wouldn't have gone. Seeing Cadel's bike there was pretty neat but yea there wasn't much else there, hopefully if they can build it up it will be worth going again.

Cheers for the free ticket!
