Got a pamphlet for this after the Gong ride...is this new or a regular yearly event? The 105 route looks the goods for climbing punishment.

Well, the first one was run last year. So, is it regular or new? You, the reader, decide! .

If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough.

Already registered for the 105k.
It's basically the same route (though starting in a different spot) as NSCC's Le Reve or El Presidente ride, but winding through St Ives and Terrey Hills a bit more and adding West Head and Akuna. It's a pretty ride, and challenging enough without being nuts - 2 decent climbs (Turramurra side of Bobbo and the long side of Akuna Bay), and then the undulating trip to West Head.
I'd rate it as harder than the gong ride (I did that for the first time on the weekend... started in Berowra and climbed Mt Keira at the end for kicks ). Bike Route Toaster says there's 1023m climbing, so it's about 1%. By way of comparison, it said that Berowra to the Gong had 819m climbing over 124km. Berowra to Sydney is mostly downhill so it wouldn't be dramatically different from St Peters.
Here's the course as announced, though I believe it's subject to approvals

I did last years, ran the Old Pacific Highway over the river and turned around bear Mt White maybe? I can't remember but it was pretty good, barely a flat bit of road to be had. I registered the other day, it was pretty well run and mostly the riders are much better (in terms of calls and safety)...
