The temperature at Observatory Hill was 29.1 degrees about 1.30pm, making it the hottest day in May since 1942

+1rdp_au wrote:Another lovely weekend. Managed a very pleasant ride on saturday and fronted up for a cool ride to work this morning. Arm warmers and a gillet to ward off the 9 deg my garmin was registering at the start. I expected to abandon the gillet after warming up for a few km, but the temperature kept getting colder, down to 6 deg at Turramurra. But the weather was beautiful and the traffic well behaved, so it was a very nice way to start the week.
getting closer to winter with the weather feeling like it. Enjoyed the cool ride this morning with nothing to report this morning.
Friday night was a little funny - three cows blocked my way home through the western sydney parklands. They eventually moved but had me a little nervous as I rode up to them. I was glad thatt hey didn't head out onto Richmond or Knot road - just into the field.

I also ordered a beanie with some other stuff from Ribble, so that will take a while to get here. Cold snap should be over by then

Excuse me for stepping into this conversation - I picked up a pair of full fingered gloves from Cell a few weeks ago when they were on special for $5. The sizing was way off, but there were plenty of comments about it in the review section, so I ordered two sizes up and they fit well. They have been working really well in the cold weather we've been having recently and were not too hot during those warmer days a while ago.Sven Nijs wrote:OT: which gloves and would you buy again?Ozkaban wrote:Ordered some arm warmers, leg warmers and long finger gloves from Cell on Monday.
On the subject of weather, has it not been fabulous lately? A bit chilly at times, granted, but these cool, crisp days with light winds are just made for cycling. I was musing on this on the way in to work this morning as I cruised along a quiet street after having crossed Victoria road which was already clogged with cars.

The $5 gloves are good for this time of year - my kids have them and like them. I ordered the $25 set of Netti gloves and they are good as well for when it is realy cold. They are not as thin for longer rides and since breaking my arm a few years ago I like some vibration protection and warmth - & yes I know I need to eat some cement.

Tomorrow will be a bigger test - a new bunch ride is kicking of for Northern Sydney Cycling Club - an inbetween ride (~50km, avg spd ~28-30kmh), which should be fun. Starts from Hornsby at 6:20, which means I'll leave home at 5:45 or so. Should be nice and nippy

Spare a thought for those of us leaving home at 05:30 to get there

Really enjoyed the new ride too. Did a few extra kms at the end to hit 70k. Chain snapped at 69.9, so that will have to be enough. Meant the walk home was 100m, which could have been a lot worse

Weather was nice but very chilly at 5:30 thanks to a clear sky and a waning crescent moon. Glad I went with the wind-stopper overshoes and rain jacket to start with but was glad to get rid of it later on as the sun appeared
