Hi all!
I'm about to start a few month stint on a project at Homebush..... I currently live in Neutral Bay and usually cycle to work in Pyrmont.
Can anybody give a suggested safe route to Homebush, I ride a road bike and am fairly confident on the bike (except for a t-bone incident a few years ago which damaged confidence).
Also, I'm VERY new to Sydney (6 months) so as much detail as possible would be really appreciated. I found one link on Bikely, but it's 5 years old.
Thanks in advance!

Here's a ride I did from Kirribilli to Castle Hill the long way around a couple of years ago. The City to SOP segment may be useful. Mostly on road except for the bits where you have to use a shared path (eg. SHB, Anzac Bridge, Bay Run). http://connect.garmin.com/activity/104299431

the best way is to head to pyrmont and then go over the anzac bridge, follow lilyfield road to the bay run, go through five dock, around canada bay and to homebush through concord. jump on google maps and look for an exact route that suits you. it is an easy ride. the route i have used from five dock to SOP is in here, it is largely on quiet roads and very easy: http://app.strava.com/activities/33185617 (if you cant see that let me know and i will screenshot it)

Yep make that 3 votes for going to Pyrmont & then extending it across tha Anzac Bridge & along Lilyfield Rd. The only change I would suggest on Boognoss' route is that at Concord I would turn left onto Pommeroy St & right onto underwood rd and that will take you under Homebush Bay Drive & into Homebush.
The alternative to the northside would seem to involve the River Rd & in my view it is best avoided
I was going to buy a fast, stylish bike, but I looked in the mirror & thought " you're not fooling anyone, you know"

+4, although with your confidence I'd avoid the Underwood Rd option into SOP (assuming that is where you are going) as there is a nasty roundabout that find_bruce is suggesting. I avoid it as cars tend to go through it fairly quickly.
My preferred route is: Pomeroy - right into George - left into Victoria - right along the shared path as soon as you enter Bicentennial Park - left about half way along that path - straight ahead brings you out into a car park and Bennelong Rd.

D'oh. I hadn't even noticed that on my own map. That looks like a much better option than the small pedestrian tunnel under the railway that I did on this route and every other time I've done the ride.

I use a similar route, but hesd up wellbank street over to coreys ave, then down by corncord west stationand the small tunnel. i guess at that end it depends on exactly where you are hoping to end up. Underwood road I would avoid at all costs, usually banked up with traffic, cars entering from the disrupted carpark at DFO, and changing lanes to try and get ahead

Anyone got any tips getting to Auburn from the North Strathfield area? Like to avoid Parramatta road as much as possible of course.
