Yeah that'll be fine. I'll remind you about the saddle again next week, just incase.

Great to hear about another local ride guys. Many thanks to Paul for the reminder and finding a local route. I'll put myself and my wife down for the morning of the 25th. I'll bring out the green bike, if I can tweak the rear brake to better grip. It's fine on a stationary trainer but pretty weak compared to my other bikes. Of course, I don't have chromed steel rims on my others either...

Not many hills on this one. :)
Well, no, it's not a pushbike, otherwise I'd be pushing it...

All's good with the green machine. It took a new brake cable, lots of WD-40 and a bit of quality time with a spoke wrench, but it's good for hills or anything else now. Thanks for the push to do some needed maintenance.

New improved route. More pleasant, fewer roads/busy roads. Propose anti-clockwise. Takes in Auburn Botanic Gdns., incl. Japanese Gardens. Come back through Olympic Parklands. If you see any small loops/anomalies, please ignore. Probably the mapper, rather than the map.
I think we can go under the M4 from Harris St to Prince St. Just that MMR won't 'see' it. A few odd things like that...
Just make sure you go with the 4-way arrow button so you can go full screen.

Hi Paul might have to raincheck on this weeks ride. Not because of the rain per se but I have an open house to go to!

No worries. Just SMS last thing, so we're not trying to get you on the Al Capone at 0700 Saturday. ... sorry, noted. Catch you on the next one.

Sorry if you've already considered this, but it might be an idea to rethink the route through Camellia. The crossing of James Ruse Drive at Grand Avenue is a bit dodgy, and you have to ride on the zoomy road for a bit. You can stay on the north side of the river all the way to Macarthur St, and come back across there. Saves carrying the bikes over the bridge at Camellia too. Otherwise looks like a great route, will have to have a go sometime.

Thanks TD, shall look at that... 8)

..... amended now. Didn't see that dark green path on the north, though should have. Thanks. :)
Actually, now recall doing that South St Rydalmere route years ago. Pretty quiet on weekends, being industrial.

Great stuff Paul, looks like a gr8 ride and the predicted weather is 'almost balmy' http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/sydney.shtml as opposed to what John, myself and a some others are in for http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/bowral.shtml   Picton is expected to b a toasty 20, but we'll be heading south before it even reaches that 'peak'. A few hills on a single speed and outside temps will be irrevelant. Ride safe everyone, catcha soon

Should be a pleasant doddle for us, Andy. Weather may be OK. Latest is they're talking residual/contracting showers but mainly near the coast; we could be lucky.
Sunday looks OK for you guys though. If you're stopping for relief, stay clear of Belanglo State Forest. :)
**********

Roll-up for Saturday, at this stage:
-Joe + wife (sorry Joe, haven't met her, not sure of her name... )
-Bruce
-Quang
-myself.

AFAIK, Sunho now has something else on.
let me know if I'm missing anyone.
Joe, if you're driving, there looks to be a pretty open parking area bounded by Charles/Macquarie/Hassall Sts. Check for restrictions, if any. Reckon it should be far enough away from the Westfield activity. Probably mainly a weekday biz area.
Propose we meet at the little park cnr. Parkes and Wigram. We'll then proceed south on Wigram.
PM or SMS me with any changes. :)

Haven't forgotten the saddle, Quang.

Paul - great! I hadn't realized you weren't on the ride my better half went on. It's Shannon. She'll have the mid-80s Bianchi and I'll bring the Kermit green no-name 70s 10 sp. Quang, I'll have the wheels with me. Rain or shine, we'll be there.

Thanks for teeing this up.

Coolies! Lets hope the rain eases off.

Will have the Giant 980c again, and the paint will turn a ghostly white in the wet. Dont want my Peugeot to rust anymore.

Looks like the rain will stop for the day. Skies are half blue with the sun coming out. The roads are still wet, but drying up.

eDIT: 5pm and all clouds are gone. Looks like it really won't rain overnight.

I'm off to squirt WD-40 in the air vents on the seat and chain stays of our bikes. We're in wet or dry. See you at 7:00!

Thanks for the ride - it was a lovely day for it. Sadly no real stories to tell - Quang was looking just a little nervous at the start, but no imitation of Munga.

Only real downside was the failure of the coffee shop to produce coffee.

Happy to help out Quang. The picture of the new carbon rims on your build thread looks great.

Bruce, thanks for the company! I got home after the ride and had a nice cuppa in my kitchen without any surliness or lack of service! It was quite nice. Maybe I'll bring a thermos along next time.

Paul, thanks for the fun ride. I even enjoyed the hike across the wooden footpath river crossing. Next time I'll bring something lighter on the shoulder. Have a great weekend!

Funnily, I'd spotted said employee setting up banner flags as we came in. Had all the signs of an 'actively disengaged employee'. Owner/proprietor nowhere to be seen I suspect.
Anyhoo, yes, enjoyable jaunt. Could bear repeating at some stage, without the navigational guesswork, (ahem, on my part). But no major wrong turns, amazingly enough.

...TedDancin, we eschewed the Rydalmere route due to time constraints. Grand Parade wasn't too bad; the occasional cement truck.

Weather was nice for it, glad you got the ride in and enjoyed the scenery. I'd love to join you on the next one, happy to suggest some routes around Parra / SOP if you decide to head back that way.

this is what ya's missed out on  The Hell of the South.....................................it was for me
Apart from being unfit, overweight, and on a bike not really suited to ride the route chosen, (8spd 13- 23) I thoroughly enjoyed the whole expierence and will do another.
