Any idea on whether they have opened the path from Reservoir Road to Reconciliation Road and the times that the gates are open to/from?

This just popped up in my email:
Hi Folks,
listening to Community Radio a day or so ago & it was announced that access has been restored into the Grounds of Prospect Reservoir and the path will be open again from MONDAY 9 MARCH 2015. This restores access to Western Sydney Parklands and opens up some great cycling in that area.

Here is an example ride from Map My Ride (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/644623648). Trenton Rd is between Guildford & Yennora Railway Stations so you can ride, catch a train or drive to the start. Plenty of parking in the area.

So it is open already? The news article states it opened on 2nd March, while the post above indicates Monday 9th March.

Yep, it's open :D

https://www.strava.com/activities/263619309

Some things to mention. Only the cycleway is open from Reconciliation Road to Chandos Road, the picnic grounds are shut so there is no entry from the Blacktown end down that long road. I don't mind this as it means there are no bad drivers in the picnic ground carpark reversing into you.

Reconciliation Road is significantly busier than it was when the dam closed and will only get busier. The traffic lights to cross the road need to be taken with great care especially as they are at the bottom of a long slope, there really was no excuse for not building the bridge when the road was put in, i fear a serious accident there.

The entry to the cycleway at Reconciliation is still covered with a blanket of thick soil between the walls of the old canal so there is no option but to ride over it, fine now as it is hard soil but any rain will make it impassable. Considering the delay between the dam being finished and Sydney Water reopening the path for "safety issues" this obstacle still being there is rather pathetic. No doubt Sydney Water consider it none of their concerns as it is a few metres outside of their perimeter fencing.

The opening hours are the same as before as long as the security guard gets out of bed to open the gates (the original impetus for this thread by the way) 6 a.m to 6.30 pm up until the end of March and then 7 a.m to 4.30p.m the rest of the year.

Excellent, thanks for letting us know, i'll go through there on the weekend. Ever since I have taken up riding, I've never been through there, always had to detour :)

You aren't wrong about the dirt! Bad obstacle. I did about 6 loops of the dam hill and the road going up past the conference centre and then went up to Butu Wargun Drive and did countless loops of both sides of that. It was so quiet as well. Very nice. :)

Nice ride through there. Parts of it do need to be cleaned up. Is there much to see heading up to the Blacktown side of it ( which I believe is closed)?

Also saw the green machine doing a pose out there :)

Yeah, I saw it too. You probably saw me - black/white Giant TCR.

The green rocket is very iconic! :) I always wave.

There isn't a lot to see going the other way, except for the dam itself, but there are so many wire fences that it makes photo ops impossible. Still a nice view however. :) Ended up with 55.3km and 817m elevation according to Training Peaks.

Go through the car park and follow the road that goes up the hill (head north, not south). There are some small little hills but you''ll eventually see the dam itself.

Reconcillation Rd side gates were closed at 6:08pm by the ranger. And here I thought I'd get to make it through the dam by the times the gates close.

The dried mud/dirt will be quite dangerous when wet. Is that just run off from rain, or is its cleaned up, it'll stay away?

Also, a bit further up the path, I find that there's two pavement joints which have raised up, which will definitely cause a pinch flat if you aren't prepared.

I've seen it doing 90 and passing cars on the M2 on a downhill. It is indeed nightmare inducing. The motor vehicles didn't know what the hell it was.
