Hawkesbury Heights on a Standard Crank

Hawkesbury Heights on a Standard Crank

Postby GasCyclist » Fri May 24, 2013 4:28 pm

Hey Guys,

Planning to do this ride for the first time from Agnes Banks with a few mates. My Cannondale Supersix is on a standard crank with a 12-25 cassette at the back. Did the Galston Gorge ride with it and while being a grind found it to be ok.

How does this ride compare to Galston?

Or should I be weak and bring my heavy Trek with the compact gearing instead.

I've got standard cranks and a 28 cassette. The first hill is the worst part, it's much easier past there. Having said that, I was on the 28 on the first section and then 24 and 21 for the rest of it. I would say it's certainly doable with the 25.

Thanks for the reply. How hard is this first climb were you spinning it or grinding on the 28?

Spinning.

My wife did it with a standard crank and 25 cassette, although she only weighs 49kg.
