Newbie new bike route =)

Postby peterngit » Sat Oct 26, 2013 9:05 pm

guys been ridding for 5-8k a day (not even a warm up for you guys increasing tomorrow to about 10k ) Been going at 14-15km/h on average =) so was having trouble making a bike route with low traffic but i found that entering parallel to m7 from camden valley heigh way there is a looooooong bike route separated from traffic. Before i go there is there anything i need to watch out? thanks guys!

Hey Peter, the M7 bike path is a fantastic place to ride. There is a thread here about any safety issues that arise. It seems the main issue at the moment is the occasional magpie.

Just follow the usual precautions of keeping left & being aware of other path users and you have 40 km of path to enjoy

Beware the S-Curves underneath the motorway, some people go flying through there.

Watch for the rabbits at night. And keep left.

Don't get too shocked by the supersonic bicycle traffic on there. My first time on there I was in shock. Going along at 45km/h and these three huge tall guys who looked as thin as Chris Froome went past me like I was going backwards.

You don't get much faster, you just get slower than faster people. Just when you think you are getting better, someone comes along and wipes that smile off your face so badly it hurts.

You could also try the Parramatta-Liverpool rail trail which is about 17km and it will connect you to the M4 bike path which will get you too Sydney Olympic Park, which will have lots of paths, or alternatively you could enter Parramatta Park and do laps of it.

Maybe you should join the next Retro ride in 3-4 weeks
Party like it's 1999

Never done the rail trail, have you got a map of the bit from Fairfield onwards? I know where it runs from Guildford to Parramatta (past the Caterpillar place) and Guildford to Fairfield, but not further than that.
