Hi Everyone
I just wanted to write a quick note regarding this thread. To give you some background, I work for Westlink M7 and I monitor the other M7 shared path thread for any issues that we need to respond to.
Firstly, let me say that it is wonderful that you guys are utilising the path! But after reading some of the comments on this thread that tended towards racing to get the fastest speeds on the path, I just felt that I had to make a comment.
I want to remind you that this is a "Shared Path", not a cycleway. I noted that some of you are warning others about your experience with the many pedestrians and tight corners along the path which is great. However, I also noted that there is a tendency to view the M7 shared path as a sort of race track which is definitely not what it is designed for.
I understand that it is a unique piece of infrastructure in that it provides a very long track separated from vehicles and probably highly desirable in order to travel along in a fast manner. But you probably already know that cyclists must always give way to pedestrians and as you also probably all know, they can be highly unpredictable at times, and if you are travelling at speed it could end badly!
I really do hope you enjoy your group ride, and I definitely do not mean to discourage you from riding on path in the future. If you could just consider what I have said, it would be really appreciated. Be safe out there!
Also, on another note, if there are ever any incidents on the shared path, you can contact us 24/7 at 02 9834 9200 and our control room will respond to any issues after hours. Otherwise you can email us at info@westlinkm7.com.au (this email comes to me and to reception if I am not here) if you have a particular comment.
Thanks for reading this post, and happy cycling!
