What's a good route to get from Hornsby Station to Parramatta Station?
Postby thomas1987 » Sat May 28, 2016 12:25 am
I did a search with google maps and it looks like there aren't really any good cycling routes. All of them seem to point me to big roads. Any suggestions?

You could go from Hornsby down to Turramurra through the back streets along the train line, then down Kissing Point rd, up to the M2 and jump on the M2, follow the detour route and end up at Northmead where you can go down Kliens Rd, Redbank Rd into the Childrens hospital and through to Parramatta Park.

For no main roads and few hills?
Train to Meadowbank station and then cycle on the Paramatta Valley Cycleway.
On 'Open Street Maps' (OSM) there don't appear to be any preferred bicycle routes from Hornsby southwards see http://cycling.waymarkedtrails.org/#?ma ... !-208.9052

This would be the easiest route. If you want to cycle all the way, take the route suggested earlier, back streets to Turramurra, Kissing Point Rd, back streets to Meadowbank and on to the cycleway. KPR is a bit of a grind on the way home, and not terribly friendly in the dark when there's traffic about.Warin wrote:For no main roads and few hills?

Used to be able to cycle the entire M2 which was great. After trying a bunch of different ways, I've come up with the following when on road bike: http://www.strava.com/activities/579830273
Road: S-Works Tarmac SL5 eTap
CX: Trek Boone 9, Ultegra mechanical
MTB: Yeti ASRc, XTR Di2

Have you ever considered going around the back way via Galston Gorge? Less traffic maybe?Leethal wrote:Used to be able to cycle the entire M2 which was great. After trying a bunch of different ways, I've come up with the following when on road bike: http://www.strava.com/activities/579830273

Have a good look at the Strava Heatmaps (Google search), and you'll see where the popular routes are. I use it a lot to choose routes in unfamiliar areas.

Of course, and I ride the gorges often on weekends, but I wouldn't chance riding it during peak hour on weekdays.tez001 wrote:Have you ever considered going around the back way via Galston Gorge? Less traffic maybe?
I recently bought a CX bike, so have come up with a few road/trail options e.g: http://www.strava.com/activities/506681172 although I assumed OP was after road options?

Fair enough I'm not familiar with the area in the peak hour, I'm only there on the weekends / public holidays.Leethal wrote:Of course, and I ride the gorges often on weekends, but I wouldn't chance riding it during peak hour on weekdays.tez001 wrote:Have you ever considered going around the back way via Galston Gorge?
