Nepean River Green Bridge project

Postby Bunged Knee » Tue Oct 18, 2016 6:56 pm

They are starting to build the Nepean River Green Bridge for walkers and cyclists to cross the river to be ready in mid 2018.
It was supposed to start constructing in late 2014 but due to delays and the cost had increased from $24mil to $49mil.

Pretty disappointed tbh. It's a pretty horrible alignment for cyclists heading into penrith - if you're on the highway heading east at emu plains you need to cross the highway to access it. then, when you get to the penrith side you need to cross the highway again to rejoin traffic. if you don't use it and stick to riding in the lane across victoria bridge you will cop stick from bogans for wasting a few of their very, very precious seconds.

Also, after 50M spent we'll still have the ugliest road bridge in the world crossing what is an otherwise pretty nice looking river.

The bridge has totally changed since the artist impression, likewise the price.

The route connects the existing infrastructure and is for riders and peds doing the loop and river run, rather than going straight through.

Went to see what the bridge was like last Sun afternoon. It was predictably bustling with walkers, cyclists and "Scooterers". As said earlier it fits well with surrounding infrastructure and the rest of the bridge to bridge loop.

Not the most inspiring of pics but gives an idea of what you see either side looking down and up the river.
