M2 widening - whats left of bike lane?
Postby ShanDog » Mon Jan 15, 2007 12:00 am
Hi guys,
I saw something on the news in regards to the M2 and I was wondering if anyone had heard or found any more information about this? What I remember (as I saw it a couple of days ago) is that due to expected traffic problems from the lane cove tunnel, they're widening the m2 to accommodate three lanes between beecroft rd and lane cove rd. The report said they were doing this by adding the third lane over the current emergency stopping lane. As far as I see it, this emergency stopping lane is also the bicycle lane and I am wondering if anyone knows if they are actually doing the unthinkable and removing the bicycle lane??

It seems that the replacement route is more dangerous than the existing route.
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

Yes, but it is unclear if bicycles will be permamently banned or just during the works.

It might be worth trying if safe. The coppers aren't mugs and if you explain what you're on about, you might just get away with it ... and it'll send a message to the pollies.
I'm not affected by this thank goodness, but from what I've read, it sucks big time. Cripes, it's even enough to make me take up bicycle advocacy

As they aren't adding a third lane in the East bound direction, so it's business as usual there. Supposedly. Who knows what will change before the actual implementation.
Bianchi, Ridley, Montague, GT, Garmin and All things Apple

D-Day is supposed to be Feb 4
However, after meetings with Transurban, Bike North has pointed out that the alternate route is unacceptable, dangerous and will not get the permissions of Mac Uni, Ryde or Hornsby Councils.
They pretty well admit that the Feb 4 deadline will not e met.
Up to the RTA as to whether or not the govt forces them to kick us off with no alternate to clear the way for the election stunt.
For more info and to get info on how you can help.
