Pedro, police target cyclists mon 27th Aug

Postby Jmuzz » Thu Aug 23, 2018 1:01 pm

Word is operation Pedro mon 27th August
Usually just Sydney CBD, but police statewide could be told to have zero tolerance for cyclists.

Bells, reflectors, lights at night, helmet, footpath/crossings.

Again? How about a zero tolerance for close passes like I had last weekend?

No mention of the 1mtr rule being enforced
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

94- Pedestrian offences
37- Cyclists disobey traffic control lights
25- Cyclists ride on footpath
50- Cyclists not wear helmet
98- Other cyclists/traffic offences

Not sure what the other 98 were, was there a single passing distance? Were any for the petty bell?

It seems the SMH has lumped other cyclist offences and other traffic offences in together.

During the operation, the following infringements were issued:

Cyclists disobey traffic control lights – 37

Cyclists ride on footpath – 25

Cyclists not wear helmet – 50

Cyclists other offences – 36

Pedestrian offences – 94

Other traffic offences – 62

Re: Ride to work day / ride to Operation Pedro day

My work was today advertising this on our internal mail and some of the screens around the place

I'm guessing we can expect a strong Police presence to deter people from riding to work (aka, Operation Pedro)?

They wont need to in Sydney, it's going to be wet so the numbers will be way down. Then it can be used as an argument against providing infrastructure as the numbers were down on last year when it was fine and sunny 8)

Considering most people cant tell one rider from another, this is a great idea.

Did they find any cyclists that hadn't been deterred? If not they must redouble their efforts!

It's not just cyclists that the NSW police struggle to accept as full members of society. An MP is taking legal action over two years of inaction on serving officers "offensive and unlawful" Facebook posts

Mind you, the Greens took just as long to address sexual harassment allegations within the party.

I hope you've forgotten a smiley.

That's like equating me spilling a cup of turps to culpability of the Deepwater Horizon.
