Dear Sir

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with your email (see below). Frankly, I find the tone offensive.

To suggest that ‘Beach Road Beauties’ like myself are less worthy is clearly an opinion of extreme ignorance. I have now completed 3 Around the Bay’s via Queenscliff and I can assure you there is nothing more satisfying than 'grinding out' the last 25kms from the Sandringham Yacht Club to Melbourne with the camaraderie of a bunch of old school chums.

When I read your email it caused me to eject my Birdchip muesli and red gum honey onto my crimson Burberry turtleneck.

Margaret tried valiantly, but unsuccessfully, to remove the ensuing stain. Surely you do not expect me to fund a replacement sweater from my trust account?

I hereby seek an apology forthwith, a replacement turtleneck and an undertaking to cease and desist from any further scurrilous correspondence.

On behalf of the Around the Bay Team I’d like to apologise for any offense our email may have caused.

The email was written by our Marketing Director who lives north of the Yarra and believed it would appeal to his fellow hill dwellers.

Regrettably, the email was accidentally sent to some of our loyal customers from south of the Yarra.

I noticed you haven’t yet signed up for the 2010 Around the Bay in a Day. Therefore, I’d like to offer you:
* a complimentary entry to the 210 km via Sorrento with ferry as the 210km via Queenscliff is sold out (http://www.bv.com.au/great-rides/40620/)
* to pay for the dry cleaning of the Burberry turtleneck (is it cashmere?).

i haven't signed up. their recall notice also seems BS. they claim to have "replied to all", which is hard to do to an email sent by an individual.

AFAIK It went to the ATB mail list, including if you have registered in past years (I got it and am not registered for this year). Rather amusing I thought.
