CycleSport Victoria (CSV) & Victoria Police announce cyc

Postby Aushiker » Tue Dec 11, 2007 1:45 am

CycleSport Victoria (CSV), the state governing body of the sport of cycling, is pleased to announce CSV’s cycling safety initiative, the Cyclists’ Code of Conduct.

The launch, hosted by Matthew Keenan held at Hampton's Brown Cow Cafe, featured representatives from CycleSport Victoria, Victoria Police, Triathlon Victoria, Cycling Promotion Fund, Sport & Recreation Victoria, Amy Gillett Foundation, plus local councillors, in addition to cycling stars Mark French and Tess Downing.

In response to the increasing popularity of cycling as a recreational pursuit and in particular the increasing popularity of cycling on Beach Road, CSV has produced a Cyclists’ Code of Conduct. (See Code of Conduct in PDF form)

Victorian cycling stars Tess Downing & Mark French with members of the VicPolice Bike SquadThe Code, which is a joint initiative between CSV & the Victoria Police Bicycle Unit, is aimed at the more regular, competent cyclists which includes our current competitive members and indeed the higher end of the ‘sporting’cyclist.

It will promote responsible behaviour amongst cyclists, but also highlight important skills in bunch riding to ensure that riding is conducted in an enjoyable and challenging but also safe manner, with the end result being an increased level of safety for all road users.

CSV General Manager Steve Peterson sees the importance of the regular cyclists setting a positive example. “It is hoped that by instilling a responsibility amongst the higher end riders, that they will ‘set the standard’ for the greater majority of the cycling community.” He stated.

The Code of Conduct is available as a PDF document and a video of the press conference is available on The Age website.
