IT'S OPEN!
The trail under Heidelberg Road is now open - since about Thursday it seems.
So you can now ride along Darebin Creek trail and connect to The Boulevard through Sparks Reserve

Nice bridge, looks like a hardwood deck. I hope it doesn't get slippery.

Darebin Council covers theirs with a non-slip coating. Hoping Banyule follows suit. The joys of a trail that cris-crosses from one council to another.

So, with all the excitement I misinterpreted "The Boulevard" as meaning Yarra Boulevard on the other side of the Eastern Freeway , and decided to try it out yesterday on my way home.
After a bit of off-roading on my commuter at the 14km mark searching for a path somewhere along the red line, I figured I had missed something and went around:

When I arrived at the other end at the 21km mark, the path heading towards the freeway ends in a dead end:

A sign helpfully informed me that the missing 1.8km link would be completed over the next few years...oops, guess I was a bit early  .

Will be a nice scenic ride once it's all completed - the wooden bridges will need the anti-slip treatment though.

Nope, my Soma commuter loaded with panniers, the contents of which were shaken about nicely
