i highly doubt the insurer would provide coverage to someone for whom the amended route didn't take their fancy.

Audax relies on volunteers, Jim.

There are people who were giving up their weekend to put on that event for you.

Stop it please. They were not volunteering for me they were doing it because they enjoy it.

This is crazy. I voiced a legitimate concern about a refund for a ( to me ) significant amount of money I had paid to ride the ace 250. I am well aware of the status of the audax association and it's members. I have enjoyed their events in the past and have been most impressed with every aspect of the organization. It's obvious that it is pointless to continue on this topic as I have no wish to get into a slanging match with a bunch of nameless fan boys.

Oh, is that so? What would they say if that statement was read to them?

Volunteer work almost always includes a sense of duty, of putting a cause ahead of self-interest - a point you seem to have missed.

Boo to the fire authorities too, for being selfish enough to close a road when there's a Very Important bike event scheduled.

The whole situation is a bummer and has changed my plans. I drove 10 hrs from Adelaide and whilst planned to do the 140, for personal reasons won't be doing it, and that is my choice.

I have had a great time experiencing some great times and scenery doing Mt Buffalo & Falls Creek, and hopefully Tawonga Gap today. I really feel for the organisers, but feel that they have taken the best decision, regardless of how badly it affects some peple.

Sometimes stuff happens, and its called life. Spare a thought for the proprietors of shops and accom sitesthat now will miss out on a lot of traffic due to the fire, or worse still, those that lose stuff directly to the fire.

M grateful to have experienced for the first time, and above all safely.

Thanks to all of those people that put their heart & soul into this event nd have had to make a heart breaking decision for the safety of the participants.

You obviously see the bigger picture, Michael.

There are some in society who see us cyclists as suffering from an elevated sense of entitlement, it clearly doesn't apply to you.

I also don't envy the event organisers - no win situation for them. There'll be (understandably) disappointed ppl whichever decision they make.
quoting myself - but just to reiterate...
Looking fwd to Buffalo x 3 on Sun :)

Glad you got some good riding in MichaelB, hope to see a few of you others on Mt Buffalo!

A thunderstorm has just rolled through Bright and a natural assumption would be that the downpour would put out the brushfire. But this is how the Harrietville fire started - there was rain in Bright but just up the valley only lightning.
Lets hope Harrietville and Mt Feathertop got the rain!

Moving on....
Bonjour Bright is getting bigger and better - got some great stuff and saw some interesting bikes.
Bright itself is coming around too - it is now very cyclist friendly compared to how it was when I first started coming here 25 years ago.
One of the things we have noticed this trip is how the whole region is getting behind the rail trail and cycling tourism.
Final thought - if you haven't already, check out Cafe Velo up the top of the Main Street where the back packers used to be... Good food and coffee together with Fantastic cycling memorabilia!

Yeah Bright sure is buzzing, awesome place :)

Gonna head out for 30-40km, might go to Buffalo River, then back towards Happy Valley.

See you folks on the road!

Yes, good luck all.
I arrived last night, after my 10 hr drive down.
A gentle 40k this morning. Then a bit of time hanging out at bonjour bright, then off to cafe velo to watch the TDU with like minded souls. Now after a little restorational snooze, it's time to get everything ready for tomorrow.
If you see a chick on a black and purple Scott, say hi!

It's a top little ride out to Lake Buffalo, Oldnewby ... a good one to take less serious mates/family when they want a change from railtrails. :-)
