Route Advice for a West Australian

Hi everyone,

I am traveling to Melbourne for a week on Monday and will be hiring a bike from BikeNow. I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer some rough route advice for some of the rides I'm interested in doing. I will be staying in Doveton with relatives and would like to head into the Dandenongs and also visit the 1 in 20 and Arthur's Seat. Basically I'm just looking for some roads/PSP's that I can take that are practical/popular for cyclists (I'm perfectly comfortable riding on roads).

Also, if anyone knows of any group rides that start near Doveton/Dandenong during the week that would be great too!

Thanks in advance,

Matt

If your happy on roads and want to head for the dandenongs the stud road is your best bet. You could take stud road north and turn right at high street and then take that and turn right at burwood hwy. You have a couple of choices then, take burwood hwy all the way to upper ferntree gully and climb up via the devlils elbow, here is the strava segment and the link from the climbing cyclists site

http://theclimbingcyclist.com/climbs/mt ... ls-elbows/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://app.strava.com/segments/374785" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If your keen on the 1:20 you can turn left off burwwod hwy at forest road and take that all the way to the basin and the start of the 1:20

http://theclimbingcyclist.com/climbs/mt ... e-1-in-20/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://app.strava.com/segments/631603" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

as for Arthurs Seat, well again you can take Stud road into Dandenong and take the Frankston Dandenong Road down to Frankston and then Nepean HWY into Dromana and the to Arthurs Seat

http://theclimbingcyclist.com/climbs/mo ... hurs-seat/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://app.strava.com/segments/632890" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I hope that helps and enjoy your riding around Melbourne :D
