I've never been swooped on that trail, and I've been riding it home every weekday for 2 years. Where are these magpies normally located?

There used to be a couple at Bulleen Rd heading cityward if you turn left instead of crossing but I don't think I've had any on the trail proper either. Bushy Creek trail nearby has one though.

did they yea to mansfield trail on sat, must have been swooped between 20-30 times, it was so bad we got a lift back to yea to pick up the cars.

give the trail a miss or if you want a ride back there is a company that picks you and the bikes up and takes you where ever you like mark 0417594998, they can take upto 20 bikes at a time

Interesting. I ride the KCT every day, but hadn't heard of the Bushy Creek Trail. I read the Wikipedia article on this one and the KCT. The KCT Wikipedia page made me laugh, though: it describes it as having "some minor hilly sections"

Magpies have good memories and can probably distinguish one cyclist from another. If you regularly ride past their nest, they get to know you and are comfortable with your presence. However, if they spot a new face/helmet, they become overly protective against this new "threat".
