one of these years there will be snow and sleet. i keep saying it, and we get heat waves. but the law of averages will prevail at some point

I've been thinking of doing this. How does it compare to the 255km Fitz Extreme?

depends which Audax ride you're planning to do. apparently Fitz's is harder than all of them, but i've done the AAC 200 and 250 and they're both pretty hard, to me after a certain degree of difficulty it's just a matter of maintaining tempo and lasting it out. if you can do one you can do the other.

one difference though is that ACC rides over the last few years have all been in blistering heat - 30-35 degrees. i had a very hard time at this year's ride and almost didn't finish.

And assuming you have also ridden the 3 Peaks, how does the Fitz's extreme 255km compare to it. What about the 200km Fitz's V 3 Peaks

I've registered. I have no car (or driver's license), so would appreciate any offers of a lift. I'm prepared to share petrol costs .

Just signed up for my first ... the 130km.

Might have been a little too keen ... sleeping in my car is currently the plan.

Looked on Wotif, was thinking I've left it so late I'll have to stay at Myrtleford or even Beechworth but Porepunkah was available.

I am worried I won't get enough sleep with that start time. Trouble getting to sleep anticipating the next day and a 3 o'clock rise would mean not much sleep for me.
I am a shift worker though, so early nights are a problem getting to sleep sometimes anyway.

I did both the Alpine Classic Extreme and Fitz's Extreme last summer. I think Fitz's felt harder and I was 1 hr 06 m faster on the A.C.E. so, on the figures, I'd have to say Fitz's is a lot harder. To get more technical, I'm 57, so my power to weight ratio is nothing spectacular, and I'm pretty skinny, so my descending speed is slower than average. These two factors are both more significant on the steeper hills of Fitz's than on the generally milder gradients of the A.C.E. If you are young and strong, you might find that Fitz's is only marginally more difficult for you.

I prefer the A.C.E. for the atmosphere of the event and the scenery on the route but I'll still be back for Fitz's this year

If you haven't done the ACE250 before, you probably wont get into the 6am start time.
Unless you can prove you're worthy of that time slot you'll probably be asked to start at 4am.

6:19 for me. Night shift has buggered my ability to sleep if I go too bed early

Just a reminder that I'm looking for a lift to the Alpine Classic, and am prepared to pay for it .

I've signed up for the 200km Buffalo option. The 4:00am start is great as it gets one of the climbs out of the way before the heat sets in. Not to mention finishing (hopefully) not long after lunchtime.

unfortunately i can't offer you one, as our car is small and with my wife + belongings there's no room. hopefully someone else can.

however, have you considered the train? there's one from Melb -> Wangaratta. it's an easy ride from there to Bright. i could look at bringing some of your stuff up for you in the car.

I've registered again for the 4am start of the 250km...now to find accommodation. Perhaps I should have done this the other way around!

I have a mate from Adelaide going for the first time. I've offered him my ute and camper trailer so he can travel from Melb instead of hiring a car and driving from Adl.
If you guys go halves it'll be super cheap travel. I'll get back to you once he confirms if he'll take up my offer.

With what on front? I'm hoping to do it with a 12-25 but I have a 30 tooth chainring, so that's the same as 34x28.3 or 39x32.5. This is my first attempt at the 250 though, after doing the 3 x Buffalo 200km last year.

I have 34/50 in the front atm.
did 3xBuffalo 250 last year with a 11/25 and 34/50 up front.

last time i went up the back of Falls i had a 11/25 and 39/53 up front...almost killed me.

If you have a 30t chainring i assume you're running a triple crank?
You'll be fine with a 12/25.
