Invite to BNAForumers in Melbourne:

MBTC Belgrave to Bayswater Winter Solstice MTB Ride (via Mt Dandenong)

Saturday June 21, 2008
Ride Leader: tonyk
Car and/ or train based
40kms 'hard'

I am running an MBTC 'hard' 40km MounTain Bike ride this Saturday (shortest day of the year) via Sherbrooke Forest, SkyHigh, Doongalla Forest and Dandenong Creek. 1:3:1 bitumen/ dirt/ singletrack. Tall Euc forests, fern gullies and great views over Melbournes’ east. A fair bit of climbing in the first half of ride with fast descents after lunch, followed by MTB fun in Doongalla and a ‘cruise’ back to Bayswater

Early start. Train travelers, catch the 7.30am Belgrave train from Flinders Street. You’ll require a ‘5 x Weekend Daily (Zone 1+2)’ ($14.50) or a ‘Daily (Zone 1+2)’ ($10.10) ticket

Car drivers, park at Bayswater RS (Station Street, Melways 64 F4), and catch the 8.24 am Belgrave train. You will require a ‘2 hour Zone 2’ ticket ($2.70). Train arrives in Belgrave at 8.47am

Starting at the ‘Chocolate Sensation’ patisserie 25m from the roundabout in Main Street, we will wait for any late comers on the next train. Ride starts at 9.30am. Lunch atop Mt Dandenong or Kalorama (Café or BYO). Finishing the ride around 3.30pm in Bayswater

BYO off-roadworthy MTB with knobby tyres only (could be slippery in parts), tools, spares, snacks, water etc. No skinny tyres, no slicks and no ‘heavy clunkers’ please! Be prepared for colder weather on the mountain

PM kukamunga for more info or if you'd like to come along
