Police are out in force on Beach Rd this morning. An officer confirmed it is a crack down on cyclists and said they had already caught two running red lights.

Nothing to fear for people doing the right thing! I rode there this morning and apart from the wind and slight rain, it was pleasant enough for riding. It was good to see the coppers ensuring that all road users were behaving appropriately.

cheers

Good on them!
They won't see too much cyclists though due to the weather
I love riding, not training

I read in the local rag that it was happening, the front page short bit was the normal anti-cyclist stuff that they write up on a regular basis, then I flicked to the actual article and it was a better balanced write up. They said police intelligence is 75% of accidents on Beach Rd involve cyclists but it didn't lay blame totally on cyclists or motorists just that they wanted to make it safer for everyone. I saw heaps of them this morning and thankfully one was booking cars for parking illegally in the left lane near Hampton.

Of the 5 accidents I've seen on Beach Rd, 1 was overlapping wheels, 3 were doorings and 1 was a distracted driver looking for a park. I guess doorings are harder to police though.

Red lights are possibly an issue. I'm always nervous stopping at them when surrounded by unfamiliar riders.
