Couldn't find the spring. Is it near the rain forest gallery?

failed to find it on a hot day last summer - think must have been looking in wrong car park as don't recall seeing picnic shelters think this description along with pic' of what looking for helps a lot

" on entering the 10 mile turntable (large open bitumen car park just under 3km from the summit) swing hard left. On the left toward the picnic shelter"

......if ascending from Healesville - a kind offer ... will these signs ever be fixed? they are dead opposite each other ! (32mm tyres for me for gravel)

From memory it's on the left side of the carpark (if standing on the road looking in towards the back of the carpark) and opposite side of the carpark to the shelter.
Saw a lady filling a car load of bottles there one day.

No, like I said at the Ten Mile Turntable - car park 3km from the summit.

Street View photo even has a car parked at the spring with the owner filling bottles.

Ah that makes more sense. Didn't think it would be at that spot as couldn't hear any water noises in that area.

The top sign makes sense but can't place the bottom one. If I ride up on Thursday evening I'll have a look. Probably something to take up with Vic roads if it's wrong though, I just live in the area ;-)

I checked these signs today on my ride. They all point the right way, nothing to fix.

Haha, I didn't notice that bit! It felt a lot further than either of those numbers though!

So you've never ridden down to Launching Place ? I can't quite see what the issue with the signs is. If not the different Kms to DB? [emoji52]

I've ridden through there many times in all directions and the signs are fine, apart from the km thing ...

Used this the past two times I did repeats on Donna. Much better than heading back into Warburton.

I did the Don Rd/Ben Cairn ascent to Donna in January on 28 mm Gatorskins. No problem on a moist morning, gravel had an overnight sprinkle of rain. A magical ride.

Be warned that the toughest part of the climb is the sealed section of Don Rd just before the Ben Cairn turnoff. If you aren't properly warmed up it can give you a surprise.

That sealed section is rather nasty. I did the climb on Monday. The previous times i've been up have been in winter so it was nice to be able to ride non stop. Much quieter in winter though.

Do you guys mean the steep bit as you leave Badger Creek up Don Rd? It kind of starts really steep the eases a little bit for a few k, then turns into the summer rd?

It's a toughish climb for sure but thankfully not too long. I've only done it twice and took it easy both times. Nice views along the way.

T'would be different if you were racing it ! [emoji48]

I went up on the Queens Birthday. Two others with me were on roadie tyres and they were fine - managed to beat me to the top!

There was already some light debris, and you have to beware of sticks (our fourth rider lost his Rear D entirely to an errant one)

Last time I was up there in winter the same happened to a mate.

I've got the silly idea of heading up tomorrow... Plenty of clothing and I should be fine, hopefully.

About 12 kms of sustained climbing, past the gate. About 8 of that is unsealed surface, usually pretty good, firm and few holes or ruts. Tomorrow chances are that dropped sticks will be the least of your worries.....

IF you manage to get past the tarmac. This was as far as we got, half-way up, three years ago.

Forecast is for snow above 700m, that's about at Don Gap.

At the top, 2004. You may be able to tell, it was damn cold.

You generally keep warm enough on the climb, and at the summit there is a shelter. You need plenty of layers and good water/wind-proofs for the descent. Under-helmet skull-cap, waterproof over-pants, and double-layer gloves (liners under ski gloves) are all good to have.
Mandatory helmet law?

I did it last July, not quite that weather. Was amusing rocking up in a t-shirt with everyone jumping out of cars in full ski gear. I'd brought a decent amount of clothing, was still cold on the descent though.

I think i'll wait till a few mates can join me, so we can share the misery...
