Kalorama Disruptions 17 - 28 September

Postby AUbicycles » Thu Sep 13, 2018 5:04 pm

Here is a news announcement on distruptions on Mt Dandenong Tourist Road (around Inverness Rd) which will also affect cyclists.

FFMVic would like to advise you about road safety works being carried out in Kalorama, starting next week from Monday 17 September.
These are works in preparation for the 9 hectare Scenic Crescent planned burn that is currently scheduled for later this Spring, if weather conditions are suitable.

Purpose
Removing hazardous trees along a section of Mt Dandenong Tourist Road near the planned burn (see attached map) to reduce risk to people, especially during storms, bushfires and after planned burning - this includes the public who drive, ride and walk in this area, to firefighters, other emergency services and to park rangers

Road safety works
- will take approx. 2 weeks
- between Monday 17 to Friday 28 September (includes 1st week of school holidays)
- 9am - 3.30pm on weekdays only
- traffic management will be in place on Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd
- traffic reduced to one lane only
- traffic will alternate in each direction with only short delays expected (5-10min).
- road users may want to allow a little extra time for travel along this road during the works.
- no detours required

Bikes and bushwalkers
- during the road safety works riders will still be able to use Mt Dandenong Tourist Road
- bikes will be affected by the same traffic management as other vehicles (see above)
- during the planned burn it will not be safe to ride past the burn and riders will not be allowed to do so
- Rowdy's Track inside the burn area will be closed for short periods while hazardous trees are removed along the track over the next few weeks
- Rowdy's Track will be closed during the burn and reopened once it is safe to do so

Planned burn
Once the hazardous tree works have been completed the planned burn can be scheduled, when conditions are suitable.
This planned burn includes private land and will only continue with the support of these land owners.
During the planned burn the same traffic management conditions will apply on Mt Dandenong Tourist Road
- one lane only past the burn area
- alternating traffic in each direction (no detours required).
