Yep go have a look it is pretty impressive....I didn't fake the photo of Danny the dog looking intimidated by the gradient of the hill   .

I don't think 42 x 19 (ie 58.1 gear inches) would work on this one!! What do you have on your bike these days??

Sandstone Point, that is just up near Bribie I assume, perhaps you can join us next time we give it a go...maybe a couple of months time :D
Yep that where it is.
My combo is 53-39 with a 13-24 cluster, so considering my level of ability at present, compared to you blokes, I think it is waaaaaaaay out of my league, unless you just want someone to point at and laugh at, for a pathetic effort.

Great effort guys...hats off to Tim for making it all the way to the top.

Andrew...Pizza and Coke ?? Love your choice of training food mate, still I guess there isnt a Macca's in Samford so that killed that.

Sorry I wasnt around, Andrew did remind me on Friday and I totally forgot overnight, went out Saturday morning for a solo ride and then coffee with Duttons at CBD...it was then that I remembered, ah well i would of NEVER made it up the torture hill anyway.

Cheers
Dave.

well, it was a pizza roll... but I guess Tim's choice of Sausage Roll and Coffee was obviously far better than mine... :P

Plus, I really didn't do anywhere near enough riding in the weeks/months leading up the it, so my fitness definatly wasn't what it should have been at..... :(

:D :D :D :D :D :D

OMG made an unexpected attempt on this road again today.

I had gone for a ride up Mt Nebo adn Mt Glorious with Winona and Ryan (great to meet you Ryan!!) early this morning. It was the first time I had taken the Oppy up Glorious (ie I wasn't on the compact cranked Avanti Giro). It was a fantastic ride, a crisp clear morning, roads empty of traffic, views forever and really good company.

We got to talking about MT O'Reilly Rd while we were on Glorious and decided to show it to Ryan on the way back through to Samford.

So there it was as intimidating as ever. I already had over 70 k on the legs (including Mt N and MT G) and was on the Oppy so the best ratio I had available was 39:25 ie 41 gear inches, quite a bit longer than the previous successful assault which was on the Giro.

I decided to give it a go and completely surprised my self by making it all the way up!!!! I think credit needs to go to Duttons Club A group. Riding with them has really pushed me to build my power & not just to rely on my endurance. I think that helped today :) Edit: mind you it hurt like hell and you could have heard my gasping for air from Samford if you listenned carefully  .

Unfortunately Winona was carrying a footballing injury from the night before so didn't give it a go and Ryan was on his first ever ride on his beautiful new Biachi (he normally rides fixed) so he didn't give it a serious go either, just rode to the bottom to get a sense of how steep it is....but he is hooked now and has set a goal of getting up it by Christmas.

ANYWAY I am bloody happy with the outcome. The rest of the ride home was hard work as my legs were shot. But now I am wondering what my next target should be???? (Ok I know what it should be...I could try not to get too inflated a head over this....but that is NEVER going to happen   )

Pax, I seriously thought you were kidding when you said you would give it a crack...AFTER Nebo and Glorious. Congratulations, that was a super effort! We could definitely hear your breathing echoing through the hills. Dave thought it was just the wind, but I knew better.

Thanks for the ride this morning, it was great to meet you too! That was one of the most stunning rides I have ever done; definitely adding it to the frequent list.

Training starts tomorrow with some Coot-tha loops :) tempted to put a 27 cluster on the back but would love to get up on 39/25

As for Dave's "football" injury.... I think he got out of an attempt a little easily

THAT'S INCREDDIBLE
all i can say is - Lance, Cadel, Alberto watch out, we have Tim who will soon be nipping at your heels in the Pyrenees.
I have not been back there (Mt O'Reilly, not the Pyrenees !).
However i was recently in South Australia and i found a beaut little hill that suit you.
Will edit this post with photo of hill later

Guys you are killing me  ..I've been very sporadic on the bike since May 17th and have been eating and drinking up a storm so I have put on about 8kg (I really am a yo yo in the wieght department  ).

There is no way that I'll be giving this hill a go before the end of August at the very earliest and would prefer mid to late September...but don't let my slacknesshold you back, just be sure to post a report if you give it a go.

I am very tempted to give it a go soon just because I haven't done it before. Need to see how many people we can get together. But Late september sounds good too!

Keep us informed of the plans (just out of interest....because I am not kidding about it being a no go zone for me for a few weeks...it seriously hurts as you get further up and I think I'd die if I tried it at the moment, and that just isn't fun  )

Good luck if you give it a go Chris and Andrew.

Chris it'd be great to catch up at some stage soon though. It has been ages since I last rode with you

Definitely! I'm riding pretty regularly at the moment, and always keen for someone to ride with. What kind of days/times you riding at the moment?
