Organised rides - open to all comers

Postby whichway » Sun Jan 11, 2009 6:15 am

Hi

Are there any other rides in SEQ apart from the BQ Brisbane to Gold Coast, USM Brisbane to Noosa and MS Brissie to Bay that are not races and are open to all comers. Can you give approximate dates and contacts

Most bike shops have regular shop rides. Maybe your LBS does too?

Hi Whichway

There's the Ipswich 100 - www.ipswich100.com.au

Also, Bike Week includes the Cootha Challenge, a 70km ride including a climb of Mt Cootha. This year's event is on 22 March.

Another ride worth considering later this year could be the Rainbow Ride - http://tr.nelson.co.nz/rainbow_ride.htm - which is 160kms from Byron Bay to Gold Coast in early November.

You could also consider riding the bike legs of some of the local triathlons, if you can hook up with a team looking for a rider. Mooloolaba is on in late March, for in stance, and attracts both serious and "social" competitors.

I'm sure there are more!

Cheers...Michael

I leave Coorparoo at 5am Saturday for around 160km. I don't care who comes with me. I get back around 11am.

Alternatively I leave Gap Creek Reserve car park for about 75km in the BFP. I get back around midday.

Hi

thanks for the replies.

When is the Ipswich 100.

And I might try the 160 from Coorparoo some time, depending on how hilly it is. It's further than I have done, and I am getting back some fitness after some knee problems, but I might be in touch in a couple of months if that's OK.

Any time. I'm open to something shorter every second Monday aswell. RDOs, love 'em.

This year's in on 5 April, which will give you a nice 2 week break after the 70km Cootha Challenge!

Ok so that's

Mt Cootha 22 March

Ipswich 100 5 April

Bris-Noosa 14 June

Bris - Gold Coast 11 October

Byron - Currumbin 8 Nov (If I feel fit enough)

Bit of a gap around August. MS Brissie to bay will be on then - might see if there is a mountain bike event also

PS I'm too much of a wus to actually get motivated and try to race - I hate pain.

Thanks
