OK a Queensland State Election has been called for the 28 March 2009.
I will post the Cycling Policies of each party as they are released. This thread will be locked as it is simply to inform people of the policies and is not for political debate.

OK Queenland political parties tell us what cycling facilities you will be giving Queensland.

What will the Election bring for cycling?

Bicycle Queensland approached both major parties (ALP, LNP) regarding Saturday's state election. With all the talk seeming to be confined to health, hospitals and jobs, cycling should play a major part in this as cycling infrastructure provides jobs while reducing the need for hospitals (healthy communities).

The Greens have jumped out with a clearly impressive commitment to cycling. The Transport policy on their website has a strong commitment to alternate transport modes. With the chance that they may win Indooroopilly, and even hold the balance of power, cycling could be a big winner.

The ALP's reply is to stand on its record - spelling out a continuation of its current commitment to cycling with the $556 million cycling infrastructure plan for south-east Queensland, some specific commitments to Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Bundaberg, and continuation of programs aimed at better facilities for schools and promoting cycling statewide - including $30,000 for regional BUGs - for cycling promotional activities.

To date, the LNP has not responded to BQ's requests for their policies regarding cycling.
