Has anyone noticed that the Bowen Hills development plan released early in July 2009 does not show a sensible bike route from the ICB to Hamilton? Map 6 in http://www.ulda.qld.gov.au/_dbase_upl/B ... ontext.pdf ?
First the NSBT cuts the existing option along the ICB, then the new plan, only released two weeks ago, shows no hint that negotiations with the RNA to run a sensible bike path along the edge of the showgrounds and under O'Connell Tce have progressed.
Bowen Hills ULDA plan has no RNA cycleway

The map that accompanies that document is difficult to interpret.
It seems to show bike routes that either i didn't know existed or are just kiddie paths.
I am not a regular visitor to that part of brisbane but for my puposes Gregory terrace is not too bad a route when not too many cars are parked.
Heading towards Bowen Hills on Gregory terrace is nicer than the return direction. (bit steep)
If you think back to a decade ago the city council wanted the Ekka grounds to become the place for Suncorp stadium but that got howled down.

The 'routes' don't exist yet for the main part.
Extreme slackness to show cyclists heading from the Normanby cycle tunnel (having already slowed to descend from the landbridge down to Gilchrist Av.) having to;
wait for lights to cross Bowen Bridge Road (nice tunnel under the bridge if RNA comes to the party)
wait for lights to cross O'Connell Tce (could be a tunnel)
coupla sharp right angle turns onto O'Connell Tce, Hamilton Pl before getting the SUP over the rail line north of Bowen Hills Stn
wait for lights to cross Abbotsford Road.
before getting to the pub for a well-earned.
That is a lot of slowing and sharp turning.

In some ways it is unfortunate that Suncorp stadium did not get built in the Ekka precinct. If you think back to a decade ago the city council wanted the Ekka grounds to become the place for Suncorp stadium but that got howled down.
The vast open spaces for mass-people movement around suncorp make it a cyclists dream.
The elevated pathway beside and over the top of Milton road are sometimes very useful as bike routes.
(but broken glass sometimes a problem beside the railway line)
Imagine what might av been if the stadium and environs had been built in current Ekka area
