Rainbow Ride - Byron Bay to Currumbin

Anyone doing or done this ride?

The longer 160km ride has 1600m of climbing in it, apparently.

Sounds pretty tough.

It seems to be run like a race too. Not sure how they can do that given it's on unclosed roads... King of the Mountain prizes and everything!

I am going in the ride this year. I live on the Gold Coast and have been riding a lot of the route over the last 4 weeks. Tomewine does hurt but its only 20 mins or so of pain, Burringbar is quite easy in comparison, not quite as steep, smooth road and half the height. Theres a couple of others further south but I have only done them on my YZF 1000, piece of cake. Are you going to give it a go

I'm a starter for this one but will be starting at Mooball.

100 km is far enough for me and i have to drive on sunday morning from brissie so starting in Byron is too hard.

What concerns me is that the current weather forecast is for some rain over the weekend.
The route will be "challenging" if it is wet, especially the descent from tomewin to currumbin.
It is a steep descent especially right at the very end !

The rain plays havoc with my spectacles and i have trouble seeing things.
I used to have some brilliant water-repellant ski goggles that go over my glasses but the dog chewed them up.
