Look up the route for the Bris to Gold Coast ride. I did this last year and it was a pretty safe route. You'll need to find an alternative to the Busway.

Also, have a look through http://www.bikely.com

I ride from Kingston to Gold Coast and use a safe bikeway. You can easily link it to the SE Freeway bikeway to go from the city.

First look up SE Freeway bikeway
at the end of it - you go up Logan Road, turn up Kingston Rd
Left on Queen St
Left on Loganlea Rd
Right onto the service road along the M1
Then you are travelling along the V1 (or similar I believe it is) - all the way to the coast. It is a combination of service roads and bikeways.

Does that help?

Not a problem. Once you are on that service road, I am 90% sure there are signs, etc, along the way.

I have a GPS enabled bike computer but don't recall having to refer to it too often during my first ride. I now do it from memory.

The challenge for me is to try and avoid responsibility for 50 lost riders in the logan area.

i rode to the coast yesterday... that V1 route was pretty good and well signposted (except at yatala where I had to guess at a big roundabout).
i hooked up with it at Beenleigh somewhere. i only got lost at the end of logan road and just after dreamworld where the V1 switches to the other side of the highway.

the route I took is pretty much this one:
