I did this last year (50km). Not a bad ride as there are a few hills to give your legs a workout. It was a well organised event.

If it runs the same course and format as last year you can "participate" pretty hard as there was a stop at Wynnum for 10 - 15 minutes. There is some up and down immediately after the break that you need to watch for and then there was the hill at Norman Park to contend with. The last bit from Cooparoo was all slightly uphill which saw quite a few people in the group I was in fall away.

Only doing the 10k this year, but doing it with my 8yr old son so it should still be a challenge in its own right. (1st real ride we'll do together)

The ebtry fees tab on their website gives you an ON THE DAY registration price. Is there now a closing date?

Online entries close today, otherwise you have to enter on the day (and will probably end up starting the ride behind the thousands of people who pre paid).

Nothing a bit of cavendish style push and shove wont fix

Im still tossing up whether its worth coming up from the gold coast for a 50km ride amongst 1000's of people... need to be near the front or the first half of your ride is spent jostling for open road.

It's only bad for the first few Km or so. After that, you can pretty much pass all the slowpokes and find a spot for yourself. :)

how many people are they expecting? there were 750 at noosa for the 160km start - was a thrill starting a ride amongst that many other bikes! frustrating at the same time but still a great feeling. I'm hoping for much of the same for the brissie to the gold coast ride.

The brissie to bay had over 3,600 riders last year. Going on the Great Brisbane Bike Ride there will be quite a few slow and wonky riders to dodge for the first few k's if you are starting up the back.

Brissie to Gold Coast had over 9,600 participants last year, near capacity. Good thing is everyone is split into groups based on average speeds so the fastest riders leave first (after sponsors), with slower riders starting at the back. Makes things a bit safer going through the South East Busway.

There were quite a few nasty crashes in the busway last year caused by pro wannabes up the front who think its a race, and taking out other riders out fighting for position. Im sure these accidents were avoidable if people remembered its not a race, there is no prize for the first person to make it to the GC

I registered a while back, but still haven't got my pack. Hopefully they remember me, so I don't have to turn up with just my receipt on the day, and end up at the back -- not that I am super speedy, but it was a quite crowded for the first few km of the GBBR. Worse on the Ipswich ride which was on the Western freeway bike path, despite 700 or so entrants (they should have closed a lane of the freeway, IMO).

Hi All,

Great to see you're all ready for this year's Enerflex MS Brissie to the Bay. It's going to be a great day! We have 3,430 registered so far and are expecting approx 4,000+ on the day. We're on track to reaching our fundraising goal of $300,000 for people with MS, but still have a long way to go.

Just to clarify you can still register online at www.brissietothebay.com.au however you will just need to collect your rider bibs from the PRE-PAID Collections tent on the day.
If you have already registered however not received your packs, please send us an email at events@msqld.org.au so that we can re-issue you one!

Many thanks for your support. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Be sure to tell your friends, family and colleagues to come along too!

The MS QLD Events team.

Was a very nice day for a great ride. Well organised, had no troubles with slower riders and I personally didn't see any agro from Joe Public (except for one Bleached Blonde in a Commodore on the way back near the Gabba who had to turn left and couldn't get thru all the riders stopped at the lights, so she lent on her horn for a bit..). Had a great run along Wynnum Rd in the middle of a fast bunch nearly all the way into the first stop, was getting some serious speed up (fast for a mass ride like this anyway) :) 8)
Ride back was crusier, until we got into the Gabba area then it was stop/start thru all the lights, but you gotta expect that... Got back to the park, stuck around for a for a little while, then rode back to work where I could have a nice shower and feel all refreshed like, then back into Southbank where I met the family for lunch and Toy Story 3 in 3D (higly recommended, BTW). All in all a great day :D :D
