Our arms were freckled like hundreds & thousands on a five year olds fairy bread.
They were a little bitter & slightly crunchy, but a good free protein hit mid ride.
ps (KBBers there was a 1m long black snake across the path near the Nudgee Golf course)
& to the Magpie at Samford on Days Road who had a little "clip" at my ear IT'S NOT TIME YET GEEZ !!
Bloody Magpies
I lived in Samford Valley until this year, and rode frequently. There's two magpies that used to scare me.
- the most aggressive attacks on Mt Glorious Rd, about 25-150 metres to the east of the Co-op, Mower Centre, Garden Centre. he is a real bestard. Multiple strikes and very hard.
- the second one is on the east end of Westbourne Drive, about 50-100 metres from the Wights Mountain Rd intersection.
I phoned the council about the first one, as it is very nasty and if it attacks when you have heavy trucks going past, it could be tragic. Typically, the council is ruled by apathy and dragged out their 'natural environment' excuse to do nothing.
KBB Snakes
And yes, the snakes are back on KBB/Soorley trail this week. In the last few days, there was a 2ft brown near Nudgee Golf Course, and a 1.5 ft red bellied black about 2km west of Nudgee Golf Course. They seem to be more on the move between 930am and 4pm. These are smaller than what I have seen in past years. The red bellied blacks have averaged 4 foot, and the browns 3 foot.
Keep in mind the red bellied blacks are not as toxic as browns, and browns move much faster and are more aggressive.
In the last 3 years, I've suddenly come across about 20 browns. I have always been afraid they'll attack my legs when riding past, but their general response is to very quickly turn back into the bush, though they can be late to do this, and I've missed their heads by mm's several times.
The red bellied blacks are much slower, and I have had to go off the track several times to stop from riding over them. They just seem to react more slowly. These seem to cross the path around 8-9am heading to the estuaries or brook, and then head back late morning. Never seen a large red bellied black after 2pm.
Anyway, the above is just my experience. Always interested to hear others.
We did a Toombul Petrie Scarborough Sandgate loop this morning, so the only snakes were in cars.
