Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011I'm in!
Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011For the climb?
I haven't done a run up Mt Gravatt for weeks, so there's no way I'm up for an attempt on Mt Coot-tha, maybe something to aim for in 2012. Lisa
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
Have a go! Whatever time you do this year you will be able to vastly improve on next year!
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011I would much prefer it if the ride didn't go through the Clem7
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
Last year there were plenty (including myself) pushing their bike up the hill. This year I'm determined to ride up. I'll be training for it. Fausto Coppi Reparto Corse | Giant Farrago Cross
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011the bicycles will double the traffic volume figures for the day. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
I have to agree - last year I found the tunnel very hot and full of fumes (and I don't think it had been opened to the public yet) I would assume that its going to be 10x worse this time.
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
You haven't seen me climb Mt Gravatt...I know that I haven't got the legs to do Mt Coot-tha Lisa
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011my last run up cootha took ~12 minutes
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
But the descent part of it still was lots of fun. I was imagining myself piloting a Matrix hovercraft
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011The BBTA have a pre-work climb Wednesdays. I might give it a go and report back!

Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011Comedian , did you have a go at it this morning?
I did my first ride since the 22nd of December , there was pain involved lol ![]()
Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
I sure did! It's one hell of a hill but I made it up and only stopped once briefly. We need to talk about doing this often..Ie once a week at least! The best thing about it was it's only 15 minutes to work afterwards. Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011hahaha it's pretty brutal that's for sure! last time i went up there i was breathing so hard i saw in to the future!
It is very handy to town too huh? i would be keen to do it once a week ![]()
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011What is the road distance and elevation from the roundabout for Cootha? Curious to see how it compares to my old Townsville climbs.
It helps to know your opponent
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011Just did a phone google. Its more than 2.8km surely. Still cant find climb elevation
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
yes Coot-tha is more than a 2.8km climb - only 2.8km is timed for the challenge at 9%.
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
Same thing will happen when you start to climb out of the Clem 7.......
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
I disagree. Climbing out of the Clem7 was a slog, but nothing compared to Coot-tha. Fausto Coppi Reparto Corse | Giant Farrago Cross
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011
Its not the climb I was referring to - its the lack of oxygen.
Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011I didn't really notice that until the sudden wave of cold air a few hundred metres from the end. I was puffing more on Coot-tha still.

Re: Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge 2011Hey everyone,
anyone doing the 100 k Mt Cootha Challenge this year and interested on going on a practice rides with me, I have never ridden it before and would enjoy going with someone my first time, I'm not very fast yet really enjoy cycling. my average riding speed is around 23 km/h, this on quite flat roads. http://couldrideallnight.blogspot.com/ this is my blog if anyone wants to follow it
