it's amazing cars are not built more simply and resilient, like the older Series 2 land rovers.
these days, you get water up the exhaust pipe and you just blew $30,000.

There is a lot to be said for simplicity, however I do like my aircon, electric windows and cruise control. The other problem is your old land rover has no chance of passing a modern pollution, economy or crash safety standard.

Some people have short memories but former owners know better. :)
Your Series II Landrover with its Lucas electrics typically stops at the merest hint of water.
A can of WD40 in the toolbox was essential (as was a spare long axle).

Going by some of the marks on cars and that some were moved out of position the water level was at window level for the majority of the cars there.

My grandfather (a mechanic turned farmer) had one on the farm, and I bet it did more off road k's than any city slicker 4wd. he loved it. The farm was on the mary river at Connondale, and it went through flood waters regularly.

contrast that with today. There was still at least 20 broken down cars on the side of the road within 2km of my place.

Yep the problem with "gee young whipper snapper in my day you could fix it with a screwdriver and some fencing wire" is everyone forgets the important bit which is "damn lucky too cos you needed to fix it every half hour". :D

only if you were too thick to fix it properly the first time
contrasted against the 20 odd cars near my place that are still going nowhere 24 hours later, presumably because they can't be fixed with a screwdriver and fencing wire. :)

Thick fog, kinda nice, wasn't cold. But why do some of us ride in the predawn murk with no lights? Runners too (on road) for that matter.

They could be the same cyclist riding at night in the rain with no lights... Nearly ran up the back of one yesterday

Mine was a big guy, definitely a road warrior, covered in Tatts. I passed him then he jumped on my draft, I had to work hard to loose him. I didn't want him hiding my tail light...

I did enjoy the fog though.

Fog was intense for sure, stopped raining at my place 7pm last night, roads still very wet for entire ride.
All Mt Gravatt photographers still had nothing to shoot by the time I rolled off.

From the lookout at Coottha it did appear that Mt Gravatt was completely covered in fog.
Basically everything was covered in fog as far as the eye could see, only the very tallest brisbane buildings emerged above the fog, and of course the Southern Border Ranges and Flinders Peak.

Another foggy morning in the SouthEast.
Riding this morning in and out of patches of warmth and cold, seemed to be colder at 7am than at 6am.

The obligatory Coottha photo (looking in the direction of city), a bit early for the actual sunrise.

Managed a pretty lazy 55km's. Mt Cootha can be fairly brutal for the climbing portion :)

Might try out Mt Nebo next time!

Nice, welcome to Brissie. Are you here visiting or relocating?
Next time try the back ascent, it's a little more brutal.

Yeah I was going down that and thinking, this would have been far harder going up!

Just here for the next 4 months then back to Sydney!
