for the benefit of us Shimano users (who have never tried Campagnolo) - can you explain the difference between the 2? I understand you can shift Campagnolo up to 4 or 5 sprockets at once (which could be useful when racing) - but other than that I don't know what the differences are?

I think it's like everything personal preference, Campagnolo is the least used componentry by Road Pro teams this year.

That's pretty meaningless as it has to do with the marketing budget of the manufacturers. No money, no sponsorship offered. At the end of the day, top end groupset from all brands have won major races.

The key difference b/n the brands is in the feel. Campag, Shimano and SRAM all have different shifting mechanism and grip, and then it's a preference call. Try them and see which you like best.

I'm not suggesting that teams would knowingly ride with inferior gear, but didn't know that Campy had the lowest marketing budget.

My experience is all low end group sets. I've currently got 2 racing bikes, one with Campag Veloce and the other with SRAM Rival. The Campy set, despite being the cheaper of the two, shifts much smoother. Also the newer style Campag shifters are way more comfortable than SRAM, or any of the Shimano one's I've tried. They fit my hand perfectly (that might just be me). The SRAM double touch shifter is very nice when shifting up, but I still tend to over-shift going down. When you factor in cost, I think Centaur 10 speed is probably the best buy. When I can afford it I'll probably switch the Rival bike over to Centaur.

Of course if you've been riding Shimano all you're life, it will take some mental reprogramming to get used to Campy. Some never make it.

BTW, Campagnolo is a tiny company compared to Shimano and SRAM. The only reason they still exist is quality.

It's a large US company pushing out a new product line, along with LA's backing. Yes, they obviously have a huge marketing budget.

Campy dont need to pay a lot of teams to use their groupsets and wheels.

It doesn't get any better than Campy super record and Bora's on Dogma
