Anyone aware of this event coming in Sept??

Looks like a talk fest for planners etc...maybe we'll see good infastructure being planned, safer roads and better laws to protect ALL road users come out of it.

Of interest is a Bike and Lifestyle Show planned for 17-18 Sept.

Of interest is a Bike and Lifestyle Show planned for 17-18 Sept.

I was going to present on our 'Cycling Dutch Style' trip but my 30 minute lecture was demoted to a 'poster presentation'... add to that the minimum registration fee of $475 (for one day as a presenter) and I thought it was a waste of my time. The poster will be overlooked and I can't engage with an audience at all. I've paid less for my specialist medical conferences - even non-sponsored ones - in ski resorts!

It is clearly aimed at bureaucrats and 'industry insiders' so I'm sure nothing great will come of it - probably just a lot of back-slapping and self-reinforcement that everything we do is 'right'... sigh.

What really annoys me is that the taxpayer will be funding most of the council & government delegates. What a bargain...

The other thing that really angers me about the pricing is that no ordinary member of the public will be able to afford to attend... such a missed opportunity.

The cynic in me has also noticed that the logo for the conference is a sporty bicycle helmet (why not just a bicycle?) and that delegates all get a free one emblazoned with their logo. This is an inaugural event and I wonder if it is a way to 'close ranks' on certain issues pertaining to bicycle safety & legislation given the increased media attention on the topic, what with CityCycle & all... They're even getting delegates onto CityCycle bicycles...
