To calculate apparent temperature from wind chill accurately, in addition to temp and wind speed, you also need water vapour pressure (derived from relative humidity).

Though a less accurate measure can be derived with the US and Canadian wind chill index formula.

AT = 13.12+0.6215T - 11.37V^0.16+0.3965T*V^0.16
T= celsius, V= wind kph

So riding your bike in still air at
5C: 30kph +0.05C; 40kph -0.7C
10C: 30kph +6.6C; 40kph +6C

nice idea but I've used up all my brownie points at the moment. Got a mate who loves not far away from the start point - he'll have a look for me

Mmmmm? I need a yellow handled screw driver to go with my yellow handled cutters & I only live 5km away.

Interesting about a drop of 5.7C when travelling 40kph

Accounting for relative humidity using the BOM furmulae AT = Ta + 0.33e − 0.70ws − 4.00
Ta = 8
e = rh / 100 * 6.105 * 2.718281828 ^ ( 17.27Ta / ( 237.7 + Ta ) )
Assuming rh was about 50% and wind speed 50kph (18.9m/s) on quick decent with still air
AT = -4C :shock:

Endorse the OPs views.... Moreover Mt Nebo is a can be a very pleasant ride when you take time to smell the flowers and look at the views.

Shepherded this little chap across the road on a corner.

^^^ yep, a lot of temp difference between Nebo and Glorious. Often its quite warm up to McAfees, gets cooler to Nebo as it seems to be more exposed, and cooler again thru to Glorious. Bloody good ride though!

I was up there yesterday. Lo and behold, I get back to the car and as I go to put everything away, I see something shiny in the spare wheel well - my screw driver :D

had some PRs up there yesterday even though I was absolutely knackered.

One day I'll keep going through Dundas to Lake Wivenhoe and loop back via Ipswich.
Has anyone done this before?

^^ I'd be really keen to know as well. Looks like a nice loop.

Although there is a long section on the Brisbane Valley Hwy - google maps indicates it's ok - hopefully there aren't too many large trucks?
Are cyclists allowed on the Warrego Hwy?

A better loop maybe - The Gap to Nebo/Glorious
Glorious to Samford (the steep descent)
Samford to Mt Samson to Dayboro
Around the back of Samsonvale dam to wynn rd and go up Clear mountain
Onto Draper, Bunya, Ferny hills back to the Gap.

127km all up with a few hills :)

Or even better:

Out to Samford
Over Mt Mee
Woodford
Kilcoy
Over the back of Mt Glorious.

Must be about 220km with 4000m climbing 8)

Group ride?

I've been eyeing off that one for a while, it'd be pretty brutal though. Would definitely want to do it in a group.

I've more or less done that, only in reverse, with coot-tha thrown in at the end, and went up the goat track as the road up glorious was closed. A good loop, but it's a bit of a killer!

That might be too much for me in terms of elevation never gone over 4k, was more curious as to the ride past Glorious.

Have mapped out the ride from Nebo, to glorious and back to the dam via Ipswich but no volunteer to participate in the ride (my cycling buddies are scared of hills) also looked into the one to Samford over to mount mee and back via Woodford and would be a nice loop also ..... Plenty of options. Very keen if anyone would be interested to go and do either of those rides anytime.

^^I'd really like to tag along on one of those rides too. Available Sat/Sunday mornings.

Not sure about the loop back through Ipswich though.. google street view indicates the Warrego Hwy may not be very cycle friendly? Narrow shoulder with lots of trucks?

Sunday is only good for me for longish rides as I work Saturday.
From what I recall when going to the avanti classic the warrego is probably just as good / bas as Steve Irwin way which I would probably try to avoid.
The loop I drafted / intend to do includes lowood which can be by-passed to shorten the kms as it came up to 203km from my place / round trip I guess regardless of where the start point would be. (link below)

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/106746409

I will do that loop probably in August or September but needs to find a riding partners (or a few) to make the ride a bit more enjoyable and safer in numbers.

I'll dig out the one mapped to Samford, mount mee and post it later on
