Ride for Life Challenge - 6th Nov

Now in its second year, the Brisbane BMW & Westside BMW Ride For Life Challenge is an opportunity for cycling enthusiasts to rub shoulders with one of world cycling’s biggest names and ride ambassador, Robbie McEwen, and riders from the Team Jayco-2XU Pro Cycling team on a challenging 86km route around the river city.

Funds raised through the Ride For Life Challenge will be donated to Variety Queensland – the children’s charity, Guide Dogs Queensland and NexGen Foundation.

This event is designed as a social networking ride for corporate groups, local teams and individuals.

Entries close 5pm, Friday 28th October, 2011. Register and secure your event cycle pack (includes event jersey).

Have registered this year and have attended the one last year and found it to be one of the best organized bunch rides .... Kudos to the organizers and look forward to a great event to come again and hopefully I get to say hi to Robbie and ride alongside for a bit and have a chat

The kit is to be collected from BMW on Ann street in the valley from Wednesday 10am till 3 ..... You should got an email sent today with the details of times for pick up. If not let me know and I'll post them up for you. It will be a good event, you'll enjoy it.
I am in the 31-33 group and will be riding from forest lake 5am for a cruisy roll to warm up and ready there around 6ish for the 6:30 take off for my group..... Should give me 140-150km round trip for the day

Kit collection is from Brisbane BMW on the following days. Please bring your e-ticket for proof to collect your kit.

A bit peeved that the "Brisbane BMW" jersey is compulsory. AND this wasn't in the information made available before signing up.

Still a ride is a ride is a ride. Probably be happy wearing a kettle if it's a good day and well organised.

I picked up my kit today in at BMW, but I the lady mentioned the small jerseys were sold out (which is what i ordered)? So I ended up with a medium. Trouble is, it's actually flappy over my chest and I don't really want to end up with chafe sores on the day since it is compulsory I wear it.

So am wondering brisbanebmw if it's still at all possible to get small? And if not from the organisers, anyone else here that may have ordered a small but would find a medium fit better... Though I think most would be after the size smaller anyway.

Jersey fits nicely and looks good
Only thing I've been moved to the last group to depart 31k-33k which could make it a hot one ..... and long .... Ah well ..... Just ride and enjoy the day

What speed category's is everyone in. I entered the 34-36kmh. I did the bris to gc in 2hr 56 mins which is bang on 34kmh. Im starting to doubt now...hopefully can hang on to the bunch! Ill be in a bmw jersey see you there

31-33 for me .... Bit different than the Goldie and more controlled by the organizer as there is an escort bike for each group and from memory last year each group had some of the organizer at the front pacing the pack and slowing if needed for everyone to stay in a group.
It is an organized bunch ride and they mean it.....
My right knees is playing up so won't be pushing too much but will be a good day ....
I'll be wearing a bww jersey so make sure you wave past !

I rode this morning in the 25-27 group - was a great ride, especially with the police escort.

Fascinating to watch the pace go from 30 to 10 one there was even a slight incline though - gave me a chance to stretch my legs and get to the front of the pack....

Sure was well organised - a bit TOO well. I found my group perhaps wasn't that enjoyable because of the marshalling. Lots of people in the 34-36 group died on the hills and the group was so tightly corralled, it didn't kinda stretch out as much as perhaps it should have. And the Subaru WRX that cut in on the roundabout at Cleveland deserves to have his hairy knuckles waxed.

Still ,some riders have no manners. If you're gonna pull on my jersey while I'm passing you cause you're on the little ring, ride off your puppy fat before abusing me.

Anyway a great day.

I was in the 31-33 group which left last and we ended up in the back of a slower group (red) which made it a bit chaotic and same here ..... A lot of slow down going up the hills (which were only rolling ones) and I agree too that it was a bit too controlled / paced in my opinion.
Too many surges in the group I was in and have to admit that it was the first bunch ride in that speed group that I held to my brakes so much .... shoul've got into the 34-36 group I think ...... ah well.
And who on earth pulls someone jersey while they are passing ?????? This is insane !!!!!
Rolled it back home and finished with 139.1km for the day with an average of 30.1 so happy with that considering 55 of those were on my own ..... oh and got swopped by 2 maggies on Beatty road to top it off .... arrghhh.

I had a great ride. The event was extremely well organised, loved the police escorts, well done to the organisers.

I was in the first yellow group and we averaged around 31 kph for the trip. That was my first time over the gateway. Thought it would be more of a climb but was OK at 6%. Everyone in our group rode well and I didn’t see any problems. I lost my kool stop tyre jack after going over the fantastically bumpy railway tracks (that needs to be fixed) near the port of Brisbane wasn’t sure where it went but a few people yelled out to me, cheers for that. I drove back there this afternoon, not far from home, and found it, yeah .

When we caught up to the slower riders along Kingsford smith drive, it got a bit crowded but we all got there in the end. I rode home after, missed the Police escort though, and completed around 120 Km for the day. Overall, great can’t wait for next year’s event.
