It's to raise awareness for organ donation and entry is only $20
That sounds great, thanks for putting it up. I'll have to check but i'm pretty sure i'm free for that day, should be fun.
I've not done it before but it seems pretty casual. I've signed up for the 70km (Start Caboolture) as I'd be unable to get to the start of the 110km (Landsborough) on the day.

I'll possibly be up on the Goldie (from Tassie) between 27th April and 10th May. Looking for some more information on the Fondo, i.e. costs etc...

Also any bunches rides that occur on a regular basis that wouldn't mind an extra.

If I can get someone to watch my kids (and give me a lift to caboolture) for the day I'll be there. I'll be doing the 70km ride as i can manage 25kph+ for that, I am still trying to avarage 30kph on a short ride so the 110km ride is out for me, even though i would like to give it a shot.

Do you live in Brisbane? If so there is a train leaving Milton / Roma St etc that arrives in Caboolture at 7.

Just organised the babysitter last night, so my wife and I can do the Cycle of Giving ride. Looking forward to my first charity ride! My wife only just got her bike, so not sure if the 35 or 70km will be the go. I was told that the Caboolture start group averaged 24km/h last year.

Gold Coast, but I was thinking of driving to fortitude valley and catching a train up (gets in at 7.09am), so we can take bikes on trains? will I need a go card? or can I use cash? only problem now is getting someone to look after my kids.

Yep. Bikes on trains are allowed on public holidays, weekends and non-rush hour in the week. See this link for more details;

PB12IN wrote:will I need a go card? or can I use cash?
you can use a GO card or cash. If you get on in the valley it's zones 1-8 so $7.25 with a GO and $10.40 with cash.

Well I registred for the 70km ride. Convinced my parents to drive the couple of hours and spend the weekend at the coast with their grandkids. even managed to get a lift up to caboolture and a pick up in Brisbane. Isn't it nice when things come together. :D

I believe there is also another ride being worked on for the Gold Coast region for around June/July. RACQ CareFlight is at present putting together something for around that time. Once I get more details from the organisers I will let you know. Nothing confirmed as yet but should find out some more details in the next few weeks. It is possible the organisers are also looking to utilise timing chips for the event.

this question probably makes me the biggest tight arse around, but here it is anyway!

Are the entry fees for a charity ride- cure cancer, endeavour foundation etc tax deductable?

I would love to ride in quite a few of the events being planned but am on a budget

when i did a charity ride in Toowoomba a few years ago the organizers (Endeavour foundation) sent me receipt with entry fee component and separate donation component.
I wondered if this suggested that the entry fee was maybe not really tax deductable.

My accountant put both in as tax deductions.
Entry fees vary, for that ride in Toowoomba it was about 80 dollars. Last year i did the Tour de Tamborine, for which the entry fee was 65 dollars.
Hard to niggle about that amount of money when you see how much organisation and support goes into most of these events.
But some events are more expensive.

+1, i reckon charity/mass participation rides are good value.

Have been waiting and waiting. But considering I did coot-tha twice sunday, I think I'll be able to do coot-tha with the 85kms. As long as coot-tha is first, or close to the start.

I emailed BQ a week ago and the reply is below:

"We are still waiting for final police approval for the routes. Once that is
received we will update the website. We don't know exactly when that
approval will be received but hopefully soon"

So they have an event but don't know where it is going? Great work there, someone on here heard that it was include the gateway bridge and the climb was toward the middle of the course.

Gateway??? Its a bit messy getting onto or off the southern end of the bridge, that would have to be a bit of an issue wouldn't it for a mass ride event?

That will be interesting, although when we did the BMW ride for life there were no real issues, but we were in seperate speed groups that set off at different times.

From the bits and pieces that i have heard, the cootha clicmb will be the midpoint of the ride for this years course! that may alter some good times this year? We shall wait and see when BQ post the course details.
