I'm riding down & back, not taking the modern racer (couldn't be bothered with all the serious 'expert' racer types), so I'll either ride the Repco retro or the single speed, so I'll probably look to average mid to high 20kph range (maybe even as high as 30kph), but not much more than that, so if anyone is looking for a more relaxed ride down (warning I don't stop at refreshment stops on the way down, as I carry enough supplies onboard), give us a hoy, even if you just want to do the down & go back another way.

The return trip I intend to just do the sight seeing relaxed ride back, via the same route but just looky looky on the way back.

I rode back last year after hammering down. Got severely dehydrated on the return leg, you know, dizzy, disorientated and blurred vision. Got lost and ended up with 220k's. Definitely need more than one bidon for the return journey.....

I'm with Comedian, if you're gonna push the pace on the way down, get public transport home or else remember lots of fluid and food!

This year I'm the domestique for my wife as it will be her first 100k ride, no way she's gonna ride back so it's the train for us.

Wal - I think your "maybe as high as 30" will probably too quick for my "30"

Many single speed adventurers going?

I am taking the single although we have a mini group with work and guessing
we may be across different speed categories.

I'm registered to this year as well. Hopefully the winds will be nothing like the first day on the RTCCBR.

I don't think that will be the case mate, I'm riding the Vertex (which is a very early 80's model) it's 2x6 speed downtube shifting, I think there'll be a few of us on retro bikes riding as a pack, but we don't mind what you ride as long as you have a friendly attitude, we're more interested in having a good time whilst riding not breaking land speed records or trying to prove that we're the 'big fish', the plan is to stop at the pub near that touristy park place (owned by the movie company) & maybe have a counter lunch but definitely a beer or 2 (light beer of course) before a gentle trip back to Brissie.

Ok... have done it multiple times. Essentially your telling the Garmin that last you did it, you did it at the pace you’ve set and you want your Virtual Partner to set the selected pace.

I've set mine to 3hrs, but I doubt i'll get there. More likely a 30km/h ride for me.

- Go to this link http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1305268and download a gpx or trs of the map onto your PC
- Go to http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/
- Click on Course creator
- You’ll now see a google map
- On the right of screen in the OPTIONS box, set your desired speed on flat and climbing speed, click SAVE SETTINGS
- Click the COURSES tab at the top of screen
- Browse to the location of your gpx or trs file and click the upload button
- This will take you back to the google map, now with your route tracked start to finish
- Click the SUMMARY tab at the top of screen
- Read the Course Details to see your Estimated Time and some other details
- If you want to go faster or slower you’ll need to go back to the MAP screen and adjust your speed then re-upload your course.
- Once you’ve got your speed and time where you want it in the SUMMARY screen, name your course and download to your desired format. In my case tcx for use with the Garmin Edge 500
- Plug your Garmin into the PC
- Browse to the NewFiles folder
- Copy and paste your course into this folder
- Disconnect the Garmin from your PC
- Once disconnected, turn the Garmin on. It will start converting the file from NewFiles into FIT course files
- Once the conversion is complete they should appear under COURSES on the Garmin
- Then edit the name to what you want it to appear if you so desire.
- Then start the course as usual when you go for the ride.

Although I haven’t done it, I think you can do all this in Garmin Connect also.

Just registered for the ride. Does that mean 2 'Raturday Retro Riders' confirmed? Munga, Pentland, Vaeske & Digger time to step up

I intend to ride, but am in two minds whether to hammer it and go for a sub 2h45m time, which would require drafting in a pack, or just ride my own pace solo most of the time. Sub 3 hours riding solo would be tough, but a more honest and safer feat than drafting. Will see how I feel in the lead up week. I intend to ride back, but only after an extended brunch.

Ideally I'll be wanting to do it in sub 3hr by myself. I'll attack the run to Beenleigh and depending how my knee is feeling since it was dislocated i'd either knock off some pace/ride back or keep up the pace and train/ride back. Most likely the latter :P I'll have multiple GoPros dangling off me or on the bike so I shouldn't be that hard to spot if you want to say hello haha.

Has anyone seen their rider's kit yet?
Fellow Rats,
A work colleague is going to join us for the run down to Broadbeach. Please go easy on him as he doesn't understand 'Steel' so he will be on Scott Addict.

I'm signed up, would love to smash it on the way down but I'll be doing the return trip so I'll need to keep a little in reserve - I remember the cramps kicking in badly at around Logan last year.

Has anyone every been at the very, very front? What happens up there?

I'm told there's an assortment of self styled VIPs in the first 30-50, who will diss you if you try and elbow your way into their rows.
Anyone who looks fit and can handle a bike can get in behind them and not get hassled. There's up to 120 in the first group, they get the police escort and right of way through many of the traffic lights. I don't know how much the police escort dictates speed, and I understand there's a pecking order on who is allowed towards the front of the pack.

Getting on this group is supposed to be easier and safer than starting up to 10 minutes behind it - big pack = big suck.
