I'm now not going with Campy Delta brakes, found something else. Made by a Japanese component manufacturer, is definitely 80's & is a bit rare.

I looked at a set of Weinmann Carrera brakes, Phil Anderson used them when he rode the TdF, but I secured the other ones today, so first in best dressed (so to speak, but the Weinmann are NOS with lever, all boxed & lubbly jubbly), I'm keeping a little secret squirrel on what they are (unless you MF's cab guess first).

Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't.

On other bit's & bob's, noticed an add (on this forum) for a Repco Vertex, hmmm that rear triangle looks somewhat familiar? Wonder where I've seen that rear triangle before? I may post some pictures this evening, if it is then I guess they altered the design of the main triangle tubes at some stage, so possibly they built them for more than a year.

ok, so during the week, i'll get the design up and ready.
at the end of next week, we can start selling these to the masses in time for Christmas.

if any of the original crew have any comments about things they'd change about the artwork (colours, size of font/images etc), now's the time to tell me.

Here's what I was reffering to---

Repco Vertex-

Image

My Vertex-

Image

Look at that rear triangle & fork, look very similar don't they?

I'm just not sure. The frame number is WF9633*** (keeping the last 3 digits secret), I can't see that anyone could use the Vertex name when it was a Repco registered model, especially since mine is around that time.

Other news, cranks are now here, so the parts list for the money pit that are in- wheels, rear derailleur, rear cassette, sticker set, brake levers & maybe the bars.
Still on way- front derailleur, quill stem, shifters, bar tape.
Still to organise- saddle (maybe), seat post (maybe), paint.

Oh & guess what I found is for sale but only in Venezuela,

Yep a 2012 Benotto, that's the only country in the world that they are available.

The 2 questions that immediately come to mind,
1) Why would it be Venezuela? and
2) How in the heck did you find that out? :)

And just a heads up that i am bringing some stuff down with me on the weekend so you lot can have a look at some of my rubbish, i mean priceless collectables.

I spend quite a bit of time on the Benotto forum, I was looking into the company 'expansion', they're upgrading all the websites for each country, most are still under construction but some are up & running, Venezuela is the only country which shows road bikes.

Benotto only build 'beach' bikes or exercise 'bikes' these days, that's why I was shocked when I saw the site with 3 different road models offered. I'm in the process of finding out how much & whether they'd send one downunder.

OMNI is panto'd on the fork crown. I have some memory of a bike company called Omni, but I can't recall what they built.

Thought I remembered Omni, Taiwanese parts & frame manufacturer, think they may have some association with Giant, they still manufacture forks although it looks like mostly MTB stuff.

Still at a loss why a Taiwanese bike manufacturer could get away with branding bikes 'Vertex' in Oz at the same time Repco had the name under copyright.

IP and copyright is such a fiddly field, and only relevant if its ever challenged.

I'll be riding the black CR1 Guy Leech thing (well I guess I can't call it a Vertex, maybe call it a VTX as that's on the fork & seat stay), or I could ride the Postal Service bike, or I could take a bus, or a citycat (how much do they charge for one of them citybike thingies?).

Thanks to munga, who emailed a certain G Leech & asked the question. Who made the damn Vertex bikes that had your signature attached?
Here's the reply--

Hi ########,

They were from Repco & haven't been produced since the 90's.

I raced on there carbon one & it went well.

Cheers Guy

It's not bothered me, in fact if it hadn't been a Repco it would have been rarer (not that that made any difference, I've had this frame for about 15 years now), but the truth is now known.
