Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :DMunga - something going on with your uploads - here it is in living colour.
Much prefer this I have to say (including the necessary amount of rust)... ![]() I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :Dthanks dan. computer has been unfriendly this week.

Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :DI like, still not sure about the bike though, or maybe if it was lighter (like a background) I'd be sold, but love the colour scheme, looks very retro.
Maybe we should start the topic on the retro biking page & see what the other retro riders around the joint think, at the end of the day, we really want as many people buying jerseys as possible. My poor Vertex has had to take over commute duties this week, found the bearing cages around the crank arm had collapsed, pitted one cap, so I grabbed a good condition cap from my mechanics, packed it with new larger roller bearings (therefore eliminating the need for the bearing cage) & raced home late Monday arvo to rebuild the bottom bracket, stupid me left the crank arm at the shop, since I haven't had time to get back there I've been commuting on the big V. I hope to get out of work early enough tomorrow arvo to pick the arm up, I'll re-build it over the weekend & be commuting on the Vantage next week. Other news, I've nearly sorted out the video camera on the top of the helmet, I have to strap my helmet up fairly tightly, but I've gotten used to the weight on top of the helmet, (hoping to get swooped by a maggie as I reckon it'd make a good vid), you can't really hear my continuous talking, so shouldn't have all the nasty swearing now, records in great little 5min segments.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
I reckon we get as many as we need for those doing the B2GC (they should be here in time if ordered soon) and then throw out a call - input from plenty means the inevitable back and forth on design. Its like community consultation - round and round and never getting anywhere. My thoughts, anyway... I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :Di reackon we have the front and back as white instead of cream, it should look cleaner and much better for either warm or cold days. thoughts?
in other news, good to see digger dan on the fixed gear on the road today! saw me going the safe route on the bike paths to the smash repairs and pickup the car. dan 7 speed cluster and selle saddle is yours on sat morning. i'll have 2 of the freewheels so you can choose.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
I sort of think the cream is nice - like a faded, yellowing clear coat over white... Yeah, I did a bit of footpath bashing to the level crossing - didn't want to touch Mina Parade in the headwind, so it was up the main road for me. Unfortunately not fit enough for fixed - single speed 4 eva - plus I LOVE coasting down hills Super re: saddle. With the 7 speed - I'm actually after a cassette (now I've sorted my terminology out) - I've got freehubs on all my rears.. I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
Now that I like, bike and all. How about we sort the final design on Raturday and post to the retro thread as a 'take it or leave it' option. Dan I'll bring some clusters as well for a wider range of choice. Waz Wazza
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
+1 for take it or leave it. I like it too. re: clusters/cassettes/rear wheel roundy thingies - you guys are THE AWSM as Birmo would say. I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D6:30AM tomorrow morning opposite Melbourne Hotel.
See you all there, benny aka pentleandaxle riding the crabon.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
I'll give you some feedback now - no Shamino or Cycling Express logos, and no world champ stripes please. And I'll pass on the steel is real thanks. In fact make the front and the back the same. However Maroon and cream similar to this Rapha Classic jersey I got for my wife has a distinctly retro look. Or the one pictured here (the guy fixing the puncture). My NOS Chesini Precision 83 frame finally arrived from Switzerland last week. The search for suitable NOS components for the build continues. Sometime I will be able to use a suitable retro jersey to ride it.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :DSome people seem to be against people wearing world champion stripes. How come?
i do like that maroon/cream combo though... defs look retro.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
I'll be on the purple meanie. I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :Dcan't wait to check out these bikes, guys!

Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
Not crabon, aluminium. Got to have some standards. Death before Di2!
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
Some people are modest. Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
Sounds fair. good explanation.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :Dron:
the stripes i could take or leave. if i want a team kit, i have one. the shimano logo is gone. the cyclingexpress logos are unavoidable unless we go to another retailer. wal: i'm working on a different back, but i think the current design is pretty damn good. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
Only titstanium or crabon to ride until Chesini is finished. Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :D
Well, I was referring to the retro look of the maroon and creme combination rather than the layout. Cycle touring blog and tour journals: whispering wheels...
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :Di don't really mind. you're totally fine to come. i reackon no one will be anal and say no.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :DI like the cream - it balances the rest. Stripes are either or - a cream band might finish it nicely. Artwork on back rocks - I vote it stays.
See you all at 6:30. I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :Doh please! if RonK turns up on his crabon, what next? brifters? lycra? garmins?
we should make it clear that retro riders, and friends of retro riders are most welcome. besides, ron, you are building a chesini. good enuff for me! see youse tomorrow morning bonus points for malt sandwiches and sony walkman's. internet experts: ruining bikes since '10 | http://www.redbubble.com/people/munga
Re: Retro Riverloop Raturdays :DHey guys, the guy that really wanted to buy my Malvern Star frame has decided that he wants a newer Malvern Star model, so I'm fitting the Suntour groupo that I bought from Wazza to it, it looks like it may end up as my commute bike.
I got the crank & re-assembled the Repco, so I'm having thoughts that I may even sell the Vantage, some of you guys have seen it at the Raturday ride a few weeks ago, brand new ultra comfort bar tape, new kevlar Maxxis Detonator tyres, just serviced Shimano SIS 6 speed groupo. Not advertising it because I'm not really sure I want to part with it, but if someone local is looking for a retro commuter, I've pretty much sorted all the bugs out of it. Talk to me tomorrow if anyone is interested. I like the creme it looks very retro, I didn't even twig it was maroon, actually thought it was black, but bar the steel is real not being prominent enough & I'm not entitled to wear the bands of a former Aussie champion, I'm happy with that layout, but you could change the bands to a single gold & single green if as that doesn't signify a former Aussie champ, that would solve that problem. As for the other sleeve you'd only need to swap the bands, put the blue on the bottom, another one solved. Hey I run my Garmin on the retro, I seem to remember someone fitting brifters to their bikes (not pointing any fingers), I may or may not wear some lycra under my shorts (don't think I'm the only one either), let's face it, we're not sticklers for hard line rules are we??? Fair dinkum you blokes, can't you guys be serious types once in a while.
