hi sorry, let me explain.

I'm volunteering at an event called brisbane open house, this group opens up various art deco, green, vintage, converted buildings around brisbane for a day for the general public.

buildings open at 10am so i was hoping i have enough time to get home and have a shower before turning up. but never mind that. i'm all for the ride wal suggested???

Guys,
I'm happy to start from Mitchy and head to Nudgee beach return. Mitchy was one of my old stomping grounds and I would never have thought that a Cafe Society could spring up on Blackwood Rd. 6am?
Munga,
Are you working on Sat morning?

I say mitchie to nudgee beach. Unless Munga is free, in which case defer to river loop. In any case - someone tell me where to be at 6am Saturday.

just to throw something else in: if you want a flattish ride, you could hit the (centenary m'way) bicentennial bikeway from coot-tha out to as far as richlands - 25km each way

Cr@p, I sold my old one to Waz for $30, I should have charged double that.

Na Waz, it's cool bro, it was just sitting around my joint & I'd rather see it go to someone who could use it. (But you owe me a flat white next cafe` stop).

6am Blackwood St - an hour out to Nudgee (if that), an hour back, quick espresso, home by 9, showered, shaved, ready to Open House it up. If you get a chance to see the Donovan Hill Studio you should go see it.

Ok you mob, you guys get the first look...........

Guess what arrived in the post today????????

It's not quite what I expected, it's aluminium, it has a brazed on FD mount, internal rear brake cable route, no frame number on it at all, it doesn't look like it was mass produced, I'm guessing it was hand built & it is much later than I was expecting, probably near the end of Benotto producing road bikes, they're now in the US making beach bikes, I think this may have been early to mid 90's.

I was worried that it wasn't going to turn up or maybe I'd paid way too much for it, but now I think I may have snagged the buy of the century.

I give you the new frame---------------

Now just have to work out whether I get it painted Silver & Blue or Beige & Blue, Benotto used both colours for their road frames.

Now that it's here & I've seen it in the flesh, you could offer me a $1000 more than what I paid for it & I wouldn't part with it.

I even sat downstairs in the cave thinking about which bike I could strip the parts off to have it ready before the weekend. But no, I'm doing it properly. I've just ordered a braze on Campy Triomphe from Canada, so I have the band on one spare, also have a Triomphe crankset & brake lever set that will be left over.

Going to run my spare Fulcrum wheels (well they are Campy) de-stickered, with a 9 speed cassette (let's not ask which brand), the rest will be Campy. I already know what my mechanic is going to say about groupset for it, when he feels the frame weight (yep it's very light), it's going to be something to do with 10 speeds, finger massagers & the letters DA with some 79 something number, yep it'd be super quick BUT we all know my view on retro bikes & my love of downtube shifting.

I am so tempted to go with Superbe rather than Campy but evidently the Campy DT stuff was the last of the 'good quality' (not my words) equipment.

Hey vaeske, I hope that running Campy doesn't mean you get flat tyres all the time. (Have a close look at the rear tyre on the Benotto bike you posted)

Yep I like that colour, not sure about getting an aluminium fork chromed, that was why I thought that silver & the blue (they had a blue fork, headtube & section of the rear triangle). They also had that very retro beige with the blue.

Ok - Saturday 6 October - 6am start from Blackwood Street, Mitchelton. Meet outside the Delicatezza (43 Blackwood)

Heading out to Nudgee Beach via Kedron Brook/MBC Bikeway, then return to Blackwood Street for espresso or, if you prefer, cafe au lait/cafe latte/flat white. As flat as the course for the day o_O.

Parking available at Mitchelon train station (video surveillance I'm told). Be there or be somewhere else (like at work, or in bed, or wherever).

Google Maps link.
