Was sure I had seen a post on great coffee shops for those of us needing good coffee to get home - went looking but could not find it - so here is my recommendation

Bulli at Marcoola - its on Lorraine Ave, just opposite the beachside park - run by a great guy, wonderful staff and the best home-made cakes! Pizza also looks awesome but I kid myself that by eating fig and chocolate cake its kinda healthy!! herb scambled egg is also a great brekky.

Every weekend my 4 girls, my husband and myself go for what consitutes a long ride for us (60km) and the highlight is the coffee and cake stop on the way back.
The guy that owns it has spanish parents and was riding very early on. always really pleasant and interested in what you have been doing - even rank beginners like me.

Cos there are usually the six of us we tend to sit in the park rather than clutter up the sidewalk seats with our bikes - to save an awkward walk on clips the staff happily ferry over the order when ready to our spot in the park.

Open from early to late afternoons so you can have a break from the rush of cars along David Low Way.

Can highly recommend it - just wish I knew the guys name -

Lotsa regulars known well by the staff. Rowers, workers, cyclists, work crowds. I seldom eat brekky (weight control) but most mornings have one of Frans' famous muffins with my coffee.

Just east of the bell tower. You sit over the water on a wooden slatted floor spotting dolphins, pelicans, shags and willy wagtails.

Nudgee Beach Coffee shop. On wet days, settle in under the awning and enjoy second coffee (and more) at half price.

Raw Energy juice bar in Noosaville- Gympie Terrace.
Discounted coffee for cyclists any morning. and great views over the river.
Plus many groups kick off from here, early, for the morning rides.

If you're down Mooloolaba way there's a cafe called The Velo Project just hidden a few streets behind the beach (on Careela Street). It has pretty cool vibes and good food, not to mention the word 'Velo' is in it's name.

Would it be easier to name the "Bike unfriendly" coffee shops? The list would be a lot shorter

For anyone coming to the Road Nationals or having a turn around the course, Espresso Depot in Buninyong (Vic) has excellent coffee and a great selection of cakes, friands and danishes. Lunches are simple but execllent lamb and rosemary pie a few weeks ago (mid 100km ride)

The place is always full of road riders on Saturday and MTB on Sunday (not sure why the differentiation???)

Thanks Ron, as we are staying just up the road I'm sure we will be very frequent visitors during the week.

We will be occupied with the Tri event on the weekend but free to ride during the week.

Stop 16 at Ashgrove always a good place to go after the ride.
Has recently had some changes,and now seems to be open before 7am.
Also new are some interesting antiquities including a real typewriter and some ancient framed newspapers.
As always good friendly service and some cakes to select from.
Bikes can be parked out the back (probably best) or on the footpath out front.

Bugger! Sorry, missed your question about rides. Hopefully you would have discovered that the lbs' conduct rides mid-week.

News in 1932-(with photo) - the DeHavilland Pussy Moth passenger biplane has been banned from flying in Australia after an accident due to wing failure at Byron Bay.

Anyhow back to the present day....

correction - it is the Puss Moth, not the Pussy Moth.
And it is a monoplane, not a biplane. And it is thought that weakness in the wing strut was contributing factor in the death of famous Bundaberg aviator Mr.Bert Hinkler in Europe in January 1933.

Yeah, I didn't get there this morning, had 2 flats by the time I got to Alderley, piece of glass in the front tyre, fitted spare tube #1, then hit the level crossing at Alderley at the wrong angle, for 2nd flat, fitted tube #2 & rode home as I had no more spares, checked the front grabbed 2 spare tubes & couldn't be bothered mucking around ether way, just wanted to ride the loop & get home again. May try to get over there next week.

Have stopped here a couple of times now...

On the way up to Kinglake, The Smith's Gully Store has very good coffee; Muffins are tasty. The people who run it are really friendly, have installed hooks for bikes out front and know many of the regulars by name (and what they drink). It's already busy (attracts both MTB and roadies) but worthy of support...

Cycled up there last November (& hopefully will do again this year) - great way to end some fantastic local rides with the RE & NBS crew rides.

Little cafe across from maroochydore surf club at cotton tree end(has white shutters, on corner) .
We sit out front and enjoy sunshine and its pretty decent.

Queensland > Redcliffe > The Jetty Cafe ... first experience of them last weekend = great service, coffee, views and how much cold water can we get you??

Queensland > Sunshine Beach > Costa Noosa ... great venue for a meet up and the drop is spot on.
